Australia / William STATHAM

Hi All,

I'm trying to find information on William STATHAM's arrival in Australia. He married Elizabeth WESTROP some time before 1859. They had two children that I know of in Victoria, Ausralia - Emily Maria STATHAM b.1859 & Amy Elizabeth STATHAM b.1862.

Any information on William STATHAM's or his parents arrival in Australia would be greatly appreciated.

Hi All,

I'm not sure if I need to re-post this message on the Essex Board but I used the lead given to me by avm228 for my Luke WESTROP.

I now have the marrage of his parents - William WESTROP m. Judith TUCK on 21 May 1780 at North Walsham, Norfolk.

William & Judith had 5 children (that I know of) in the Castle-Hedingham area between 1781 and 1792. Luke b.1781, John b.1782, Judith b. 1786, Ruth b.1788 & Mary b.1792.

I now have the issue of which William Westrop is the father of my Luke. I have 2 possabilities that were baptised in Castle-Hedingham that would by the right age. I was hoping that the names of the children of William & Judith might steer my in the right direction but no such luck.

The 2 possabilities for my William are -
1. William WESTROP c.29 Jun 1755 in Castle-Hedingham to James WESTROP & Martha
2. William WESTROP c.6 Jun 1756 in Castle-Hedingham to Robert WESTROP & Mary

If anyone is able to advise my as to which William WESTROP is the father of my Luke WESTROP it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi All,

I'm trying to find the baptism & parents of Luke WESTROP. He married Martha JONES on 26 Jan 1804 at Saint Andrews, Enfield, London. I have them having 7 children in the area between 1804 and 1820.

Any help finding Luke WESTROP's baptism and parents would be greatly appreciated.

Hi All,

I'm trying to find any information on Emily Mary WALLACE. She was born around 1889 and married George John WORLD in 1915 in Victoria, Australia. Was she born in Australia? When did she or her parents arrive in Australia?

Any information anyone can pass on will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Judith,

Thanks so much for this.

It's interesting you mention the SMITH link. I have a theory and maybe I'm drawing a long bow but I think that Frank Hobden WORLD may have married his cousin Alice May WORLD nee McCARTHY nee SMITH.

My reasons for this are -

1. There is an article in this thread where Alice pays respect to her son Frank World who was killed in WWI as well as her brother John Henry Adams SMITH. Maybe the maiden name of Alice and Johns Mother

2. Frank Hobden WORLDS mother's maiden names was Mary Ann ADAMS

3. Frank and Alice had a son Henry Adams WORLD

Maybe Frank's Mother and Alice's Mother were sisters. He may have jumped ship because he had family already living here.

A long bow?

Hi All,

Thanks so much for your help so far!

Some of your post have left me with many more questions. As Gerry points out the 1881 census has "Frank. H. World, married, 25, born in Southsea, Hants, as a Wardroom Steward on board the HMS Carysfort anchored at Simon's Bay Cape of Good Hope"

Six years later his first child is born in Australa. Is this a different wife or Alice? Did he jump ship and ditch a wife and family in England or is there a record of Frank World arriving in Australia?
