Have you tried http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/w/h/i/Martin-P-White/WEBSITE-0001/UHP-0457.html ? There are a few connections made in the earlier times which I'll personally consider slightly tenuous until I've personally  seen the basis for them in their context.
I'm descended from the John BULL/Mary SHELLEY [& variants] marriage. I serendipitously found their grave the other week in Marchwood Church, and am off on Friday to get some better photos and for further investigations with more time available for the nearly illegible BULL gravestones nearby..

Have you got any further with your search?

Out of interest, what is your descent line from Samuel? Mine is Greenaway - Hunt - Bull - Moore. I'm particularly interested as I'm trying to track the source of a family 'weakness' which came from the Hunt side. This develops in the later years. Unfortunately Samuel was killed in a carting accident at quite a young age, so even he had it then it hadn't had time to develop.

Regards,
Jon

England / GREEN[A]WAY & GRAVESTOCK marriage.

I'm looking for anyone who might have Sarah Elizabeth / Elizabeth Sarah / Sarah / Elizabeth GREENAWAY / GREENWAY in their line. She seemed to change her name over time depending on who was filling in the form.

She was born in Kingston upon Thames, Surrey in 1861. Although she is shown in the 1861 census as 4 year old 'nurse child', based on her birth certificate this presumably should have been 4 months. In 1871 she is given as 9 years old. Over this period she was living with her step-uncle and step-aunt STOCKWELL (this is a very convoluted relationship!) in Surbiton / Kingston upon Thames, Surrey.

She possibly married as GREENWAY in Cambridge during June-Sept. 1889 to Arthur GRAVESTOCK (born 1859-60 in Little Granden, Cambridge). In 1891 they lived in Watford.

I have further details if required.
Seasons greetings,
Jon

Surrey / 6th (Esher) Surrey Rifle Volunteers
« on: Sunday 13 December 09 17:21 GMT (UK)  »
Has anyone out there discovered ancestors serving in the 6th (Esher) Surrey Rifle Volunteers? This Corps and its successors drew most of its membership from the parishes of Esher, Molesey, Thames Ditton, Long Ditton, Cobham, Walton-on-Thames, Weybridge, and Stoke D'Abernon.  Whilst retaining a degree of autonomy, they were amalgamated into the 2nd Surrey Administrative Battalion, which later became the 5th Surrey Volunteer Rifles. In 1908 Esher became the A Detachment of the 6th Battalion, the East Surrey Regiment.

I am pursuing an MPhil in Local History on the Esher Corps, and would be interested in talking with anyone who might be able to put 'flesh on the bones' of names in newspaper reports and Battalion Orders. Conversely, I might be able to provide information to others on their ancestors.

Season's greetings. Jon Moore

Hi,

I link to Samuel and Elizabeth, via their daughter Eliza. I also have considered the Guildford connection to be the most likely one, but have not found anything to confirm this view - who knows what other Samuels may be missing from the surviving records.

There is also a John GRINAWAY (born in Guildford, married to a Harriett) at Malden Russett near Chessington in 1851 - HO107/1603 f525 p5. I suspect these may well be the John and Hannah GREENAWAY who married in Epsom in 1837.

Regards,
Jon

And not only were they brothers, but they married sisters: John to Thirza Hannah Bell (various spellings), and Samuel to Vashti Bell, both of Whiteparish in Wiltshire. The former couple were my maternal great-grandparents. I have further details should you require them.
Regards, Jon.
