Tipperary / Mary O'Connor: ? place name 1850 ships manifest
« on: Saturday 13 February 21 07:35 GMT (UK)  »
Ship manifest for the Bussorah Merchant which sailed from London shows Margaret and Mary O'Connor, aged 20 and 21, arriving at Geelong in June 1850. Both listed as  'Single. housemaid'.
Can't find the place of origin or one in Tipp that looks likely?
I read it as something like 'apimore'.
But 'api' doesn't strike me as any irish word/part word? ('mor' of of course does).
Comparing to other writing on the page, the first letter is consistent with 'a', eg as used in 'armagh',  butnot a possible alternate of 'c',  'c' letters look different. The second letter is like the 'p' in 'Tipperary'. It is not a long 's' : these aren't found in the passenger details.

There are no other O'Connor's on the manifest.
There is a person arriving from Killoscully and another from Dundrum. But the passengers are from from every corner of Ireland: no pattern.

Lastly a death cert for this Mary O'Connor in 1896 puts her place of birth as "Co. Clare".  Nothing jumps out here either?
I've attached the word in question, and a snippet from the page to show lettering.
Hoping someone will know straight off :)

John's  father's full name maybe JAMES Francis.
Two children are listed as born to John Twomey and Ellen McCann in Newry
Margaret  10 June 1911
James      13 April 1914  (on cert as James Francis,
likely to have received his paternal grandfather's name ? )

Trying to find this place said to be in Clare?
I've surfed the net a bit and looked in usual places. It doesn't seem to be in Townland lists.
There are a few matches for the name  on straight google from entries in My Heritage...But I can't find this place in Clare?
I have it as a birthplace for an obit in a Australian newspaper for  Mary O'Keeffe  in 1925.
Thanks

You may get a bit further if  you post more detail about the information you've given, ..( Fathers name, potential brothers name, middle name, 1875, 1897 ) where does it come from etc?  family, records,  etc, including links to records or a transcription. Others may see something you haven't or take a different slant on it.

This is likely to be your great great grandmother. Dropped a few years off her age !
Dates and ages don't exactly fit but thats often the case.

Marriage of Ellen Riordan and John Morrissey found in NLI 24th Feb 1857 Aghabulloge (Aghbologe)

Suggest you also confirm via certs as previously mentioned.
You can also see a number of other potential siblings by scrolling through the Aghabulloge Baps and via FamilySearch

Also to point out that in 1901   there  is an Ellen Morrisey aged 70,  widow, living nearby to the Fitzgerald family in Rylane. This maybe Hannah and Norah's mother
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Cork/Mountrivers/Rylane/1124350/
Living with a Cunningham family. Jeremiah and Lizzie. So potentially a third sister (Hannah, Norah and Elizabeth Morrisey).
You could check their marriage cert and see if her father is a John Morrisey and again the Townland.

1911 Census has Richard and Norah married 23 years.
Here's his marriage cert to order.
Richard Fitzgerald
Date of Registration:   Jul-Aug-Sep, 1887. Macroom, Ireland
Volume: 5  Page Number: 253  FHL Film Number: 10125
Has a number of potential spouses and list includes  a 'Nanno Morrissy'.
This of course is likely to be the sister of Hannah Deetjen nee Morrissey.
This hopefully will have the Townland name of the Morrissey family.
