Dunbartonshire / Re: Thomasina Edmond Kilmaronock

Having satisfied myself as to who was in the grave I then went a-hunting for her spouse - Thomas Edmond, born 1844, married 1878 and then disappeared. I have tried all the normal BMD in the UK and the emigration records and have found no trace of Thomas.
Is there somewhere else that you experienced genealogists know of that I could search?
Thanks for your patience.
Ron

Hi Skoosh, are you absolutely sure about this? I would have thought there were several other lairds a lot closer to Kilmaronock than Blanefield.

Hi OFG, two very good points, I may try and follow this further.

Problem solved and thank you to all who contributed. The person buried in the plot was Mrs Thomas Edmond, no Thomasinas here. She was a Muirhead and a sister to both my maternal great grandfather and great grandmother. Marrying first cousins!!!
I did however learn another piece of interesting information of a more general nature - it is a LAIR not a LAYER.
Regards,
Ron

Thank you all. The plot thickens. I will post the Council response as soon as it comes to hand but as the office is currently closed and all enquiries are being answered via the website I didn't expect a quick reply.

On a brighter note I managed to track down OFG's minister's son, all the girls in the neighbourhood seemingly felt the same way!!

Thanks again oldfashioned girl, I have sent a long email to the graves department.
I also grew up in the district, born and raised in Croftamie but don't remember a minister's son!

Following oldfashionedgirl's recommendation I checked all births, marriages and deaths for a Thomasina with no success.

I can't be sure when the headstone was put in place but I would guess sometime between 1955 and 1970. That is after Wilhelmina and before Norman, but I am guessing!

Good questions wivenhoe.
According to my local source who was also the person that spoke to the Dunbarton 'graves department' Thomasina, Norman and Helen are buried in 81 and George, Wilhelmina and NG Buchanan are in 82.
You will gather from that I never spoke to the department and all my local source could glean was the above.
Maybe I should attempt to find out where the graves department is and email them a request.
Thank you for your help.

Thank you Don and ev,
Jeanie is also in my mix, her father William Muirhead is my 2g grandfather and grandfather of the Williamina in the grave! Thomas was a different Edmond although well known to my forebears.

Thankyou Oldfashioned girl, I will try the wedding search although as the burial was 1918 I would be surprised if the tradition of using a maiden name was still prevalent.
