Dorset / Galpin
« on: Sunday 24 March 24 14:06 GMT (UK)  »
Are there any male Galpin's that have taken a Y-DNA test? I am from Devon but my family was originally from Marnhull, Dorset. I am trying to find connections back to Dorset. Thank you.

"You got a canned GRO response. Their standard records only start in 1845. But they do have this non-standard, pre-civil registration record in their possession. You should point that out and ask for a copy of the entry."

Thanks Wexflyer.
Tried  GRO again and got a pdf sent to me with hand written list of marriages for 24 June 1838.
The marriage is recorded as 24th June 1838 Richard Freeman & Margaret Fetherton.
It does not look like the original church handwritten entry that I had seen before. perhaps it was a list that Roz drew up which is on Irish Ancestors.
Still trying to gain access to the original church record held on FS.

Thanks dublin1850

Family Search have the original entry which is not normally viewable online. But on 5th Sept a family member will hopefully have the opportunity to view the original entry online directly from Utah.

Thank you very much dublin 1850.

Can I ask,  do you have access to the original church entry (hand written) or is the extra info you have provided i.e the bride's first name Margaret come from a transcript? The reason I ask is because I have seen the original church hand written entry for this marriage once and in my view it did not correspond with the information given in the transcript. In my view it said Mary Fetherston. Only four letters for Mary not Margaret. Could the transcriber have mistake Mary for Marg ?

Does anyone out there have access to the original church hand written entry for this marriage of Richard Freeman & Mary (Margaret) Fetherston (Fetherton)  24 June 1836 /1838 in Dublin?

Thanks

Does anyone have a copy of "Irregular Marriages in Dublin before 1837" compiled by Henry (Harry) McDowell, who could look up the marriage of a Richard Freeman around 1836 / 1838 to a Margaret Fetherton or Mary Fetherston? Thanks.

Thank you CaroleW & Dundee (Debra) for your help.  Much appreciated.

I have seen the original church record  entry for this marriage once.

While the transcript on FS has it as Margaret Fetherton, it reads to me as Mary Fetherston.

In my wife's family there was a marriage between a Richard Freeman ( a miniature artist ) born around 1800 and Mary Fetherston b1822. In 1838 Mary would only have been 16 years old.

If anyone has access to the microfilm at FS it is

Thanks again

Looking for the marriage of a Richard Freeman and Margaret Fetherton or more likely Mary Fetherston
24th June 1838. No indication of religion. I think it was in Dublin.

It is on Family Search as a transcript ( not original image of church record) but gives no indication where the marriage occurred. Supposedly on FS in the civil records from 1845, but when I contacted GRO they said their records only started from 1845 and this marriage was in 1838.

Any help appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Devon Lookup Requests / Re: Doddiscombesleigh Marriage of Edward Martin (Martyn)
« on: Monday 11 March 19 14:02 GMT (UK)  »
Bump.....

Looking for the marriage of Edward Martin to Ann (unknown) around the latter part of the 18th century (1780-1791). Edward and Ann had at least four children baptised in Doddiscombesleigh between 1792 -1802 ( Edward George, Ann & Robert), but appear not to have been married there. Anyone with marriages for  places near Doddiscombesleigh ? Anywhere in Devon?

Parents of Edward Martin  (or Martyn)  Edward Martin and Sarah Bicknoll married Holcombe Burnell around 1746.  Their son Edward was born around 1754. Thanks Reni.
