re John Currie. I am researching the family OVENSTONE and Helen Ovenstone, (the spelling OveRstone on the gravestone is not correct) is on my list and I know a lot about her family. As far as John Currie is concerned, the following may be of interest, which is taken from a list called -
the Fife Shopkeepers and Traders (1820-1870) - Elie
CURRIE, JOHN (d 1847); wright & builder, Commercial St; listed Pigot (1825 & 1837); d March 28 1847 aged 68; m to Ann Forrest, who d typhus, Jan 12 1848 aged 63, succeeded in business by his son THOMAS CURRIE (b April 8 1813; d Dec 20 1891); he traded under the firm of JOHN CURRIE & SON, emp 8 men in 1851 and 6 men and 2 boys in 1861; Westweed (1862 & 1866) lists him as an Architect & Builder in South St; d Dec 20 1891 aged 79; m Ceb 1836 Helen Ovenstone (she d July 22 1885 aged 75), dau of Walter Ovenstone, shipmaster, Elie; the plant & stock-in-trade of JOHN CURRIE & SON was being adv for sale by roup, Nov 11 1899 (EFR Nov 3 1899).
