Suffolk / Death/Burial in Dec 1833 or Jan 1834 of Joseph Goddard in Fressingfield
« on: Monday 14 March 22 13:35 GMT (UK)  »
Death/Burial in Dec 1833 or Jan 1834 of Joseph Goddard in Fressingfield or Chediston?

I found this inquest report in the Ipswich Journal 4 Jan 1834 of a Joseph Goddard, found dead on Christmas Day 1833 but I am not finding the burial of a Joseph Goddard in late Dec 1833 or Jan 1834 on the Suffolk Burials CD that I have purchased. I've considered that he might not be buried in Suffolk of course, but I think he would have been. Any ideas?

Suffolk / Parish Funded Emigration
« on: Wednesday 02 February 22 10:34 GMT (UK)  »
I was looking at Stradbroke parish for the Thrower family who were paupers and seemed to disappear in the early 1820s, and in the 1874 White's Directory it said: "The parish sent about 200 paupers emigrants to America from 1831 to 1843."

So I did a search for Stradbroke in the TNA catalogue and it found lots of information about Lord Stradbroke - however, this description of a letter dated 17 July 1844, reference MH 12/489/188 was interesting:

" Content: Folios 274-276. Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: Help with poss NPE
« on: Sunday 25 August 19 10:56 BST (UK)  »
Really sorry. I should be taken to task for drip feeding and complete loss of memory about previous post.

Just checked the relationship and it's not her aunt but her first cousin once removed who does not match at all - her father's first cousin on father's side via her grandfather's brother. DNA done as a result of my previous query.

I'l check the other questions you've asked and get back to you.

The FC1R does seem to match to paternal ancestors. Adoption not involved. All births verified.

I've been doing my friend's tree and she has had her DNA done on Ancestry and she doesn't match her aunt at all. I need help to help her interpret these results.

Is there anyone out there I can speak to please.  No other relatives alive to test.

Or is there a step by step guide somewhere I could refer to?

Many thanks

Lancashire / Bolton - Bridge Street
« on: Sunday 11 November 18 08:18 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone live in Bolton and recall a leather goods shop in Bridge Street? Possibly run by a Polish family in the 1950s or 1960s?

Or is there a directory online that I could search for it. Any help or ideas gratefully received.

Many thanks

I'm looking for someone to do some research at the Birmingham Diocesan Archives - specifically on the pupil or donations records for Besford Court School which are held there.

http://www.birminghamarchdiocesanarchives.org.uk/archives_index.asp?searchstring=besford&searchstringand=%&searchparishlo=0&searchparishhi=99999999&searchcollectionlo=0&searchcollectionhi=99999999#results

Is there anyone on this forum who would be able to do this please?

Many thanks

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: Ethnicity Estimate turmoil
« on: Wednesday 22 November 17 12:14 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you david, hurwood and yonks for looking at this. Both parents are deceased and Y-DNA is not an option as the person is female. I have uploaded her DNA to Gedmatch already and the Admixture results are similar.

It's the 26% Eastern European that is bothering her as the family are many generations from the North of England and according to the records, nowhere else. Can anyone advise what the 26% Eastern European might be telling her with respect to her ancestry.

Many thanks

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Ethnicity Estimate turmoil
« on: Wednesday 22 November 17 09:34 GMT (UK)  »
My friend has recently tested on Ancestry and has been given the Ethnicity Estimate of 50% Great Britain 26% Eastern Europe, 13% West Europe, 7% Finnish/Russian and smaller amounts of others. They now have a very real concern that their father is not their real father and are upset.

I don't think that's what it is telling them, as I know the weight that should be assigned to this. However, I want to point them in the direction of a written paper to help them understand exactly what it means to allay their fears. They are not keen to share this with family members and it is not helping that so far they have no DNA matches to their father's side or none that can be identified.

Can anyone advise or PM me privately to discuss.
Many thanks

Thank you all - lots of really useful information. A little update from the family is that apparently, there was a family rumour that they weren't married at all! So I've reigned back on the determination to find it now. Kind regards.
