Does anybody know if there are any lists available of people who worked there?
I think my grandmother was there and would like to confirm this.

Does anyone know of any descendants or relatives of Alexander Muirhead born 1892 in Dornock?  He married Georgina Robertson in 1932 in Dornock.

Thanks for your replies.

We have read the Dick Lauder book and thats what made us think the floods were the reason they moved on, It is suprising when you visit the area to think that a small burn could swell and do so much damage.

We have extensively researched the knockando area history but unfortunately a fire destroyed the parish records in 1783 so there are no records before this date.

We posted this site in the hope somebody may have a family bible or information, bit of a long shot really

The Cally cottage is next to the Cally bridge so it is understandable why the locals know it as the Cally burn.

Thanks again for your interrest

Leicestershire / Re: Pickards of Sileby

Hi Anne & K

Anne, can you drop me a line (email) please, I believe k as passed my address on.

I have turned up another Leicester/Aberdeen possible connection.

In 1771 the '17th Leicestershire Regiment on Foot' marched to Scotland where they remained Garrisoned at Aberdeen while being reorganized until 1773.

For info - They were then moved to Ireland until 1775 where they embarked for America to be involved in the war of independence (the Battle of Princetown 1777).

I know the dates are to early for the William who married Mary Farquar (he was listed as a soldier on his son Williams death certificate 1888) but maybe it could tie up with his father?

Just another line of thought?

Aberdeenshire / Re: Third - Lonmay, Strichen

Hi Monica

Thanks for your help

We know of this family tree, but, believe there may be a mistake.  This family tree shows a Margaret Third, born 1827 ??

Our Margaret, according to her death record, died 12.03.1898 at Rathen aged 61, this would make her born 1836/7, the entry shows her father to be George Third and her mother Jane Dunn.

We believe the mistake comes from the 1841 Strichen census which shows Margarets age as 13, it is not a clear entry and we think it is actually a 3, this would then make the ages tie up for our Margaret with this family. The 1827 Margaret, we think, does not exist !

Also, in the 1881 census for Lonmay -
Margaret Third, head, unmarried aged 44, along with her family details, there is listed a Jane Third, sister, aged 60. We believe this was actually her step-mother Jean/Jane Mitchell b:1821. This then again connects our Margaret with that family.

This has caused a lot of confusion but we believe that the above information is correct, and this is our Margaret's family tree.
