Derbyshire Lookup Requests / John or George Stone/pre1871 census lookup plse
« on: Sunday 06 February 05 16:43 GMT (UK)  »
Please could any one look for George or John Stone in the village of Quarndon in any of the census prior to 1871. I am sure George died in 1870 or thereabouts and his wife was Sarah. John was his father, wife was Elizabeth.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / 1851 Census Lookup- Stone
« on: Tuesday 25 January 05 16:43 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I wonder if anyone could look up William Stone in Quarndon Village for me please in 1851. At this time he should have been abt 13/14. Unfortunately am not sure if there was more than one William/similar age.  ???
However, any information may allow me to eliminate some of the ten sets of parents possibilities :D ;D
Many thanks
C

Hiya,
He worked as a Railway Guard in Shrewsbury.
I can't find the source of information at the minute. But, this might help you in the meantime. If you go to the National Archives site and "in search" type in Railway Staff Records, there is a number of sources that come up and also a Leaflet on Researching Rail Workers. And if your ancestor worked for the GWR they hold several volumes of records.
The other one I found could have been on AtoA I will get back when I find it - I really should keep better records!

hi there,
Myt GGG Grandfather also worked for GWR. I tried National Archives and they do hold a record relating to staff of the GWR but no guarantee that our ancestors will be in it. Shall we all get together for a copy??

Hi, thanks yes I did and how rude of me not to post back. In the end from there I found the Catholic Family History site:

http://www.catholic-history.org.uk/cfhs/

They have lots of information and publications and I have written to the contact listed on the site who holds a register of 14,000 nuns. There is no charge for this :) :)
Interestingly there is also an index of beneficiaries of wills of Lancashire Catholics some 23,000 mentions which people are also welcome to write away for.
And for those of you that have a catholic family history there is a wealth of publications with information.

So Cheers Mobo  :) :) And suppose it makes a real difference from my ag labs!!! ;D ;D ;D ;)

Hi
Can anyone help me find any trace of a family Kearns in either Oswestry or High Ercall? Would be very grateful for any help on either family. I am particularly looking for John Kearns aged 21 at the time. I last have him in Stafford in 1841 and next in 1871 in Shrewsbury. I am trying to fit the in between years. ::)

Would be very appreciative of any help.
