Lancashire / A Question about burial's and Graves
« on: Friday 07 September 12 03:49 BST (UK)  »
I have recently been using http://www.burialrecords.manchester.gov.uk/ to find family graves in Manchester. I was wondering how common family plots were in the 1920's and 1930's for people that were not well off. Were people usually related to the other people in the plot? I found my Great Grandmothers son Raymond Crompton buried in 1930 in position 2 of Grave 615 at Philips Park Cemetery, in Position 1 is Joseph Tetlow in 1928, positions 2,3 and 4 also have Tetlow family members in them, is it likely that my Great Grandmother had some link to Joseph Tetlow?

Lancashire / Born out of Wedlock 1920's
« on: Wednesday 29 July 09 14:50 BST (UK)  »
I have been researching my mothers side of my family tree in Manchester North, Blackley area. I already Knew that my Nana was born in July 1925 and my Aunty (Mothers sister) told me the names of her parents, however I have discovered a Marriage record for William Crompton and Emma Walker online saying they were married in April 1929, my Nana Elsie Walker never used the surname Crompton and was registered as a Walker.

At first I thought my aunty had got the surnames mixed up...but now I am starting to think that my nana was born out of Wedlock and that William Crompton was not her biological father..

Am I right in thinking that in the 1920's birth out of Wedlock was still socially unacceptable? And that if indeed William Crompton was her father then he would have married Emma Walker before my Nana was born? I have sent off for her Birth Certificate...

Lancashire / Re: Heaton Park Prefabs
« on: Wednesday 29 July 09 14:20 BST (UK)  »
I am so glad I found this thread, my mother Janice Comrie lived in the prefab houses on Perrivale Avenue in the estate off Sheepfoot Lane with her 6 siblings and parents. My mother passed away in 1998, so researching her side of the family tree is a bit more difficult, I am sure she had told me lots about her family etc, But I would have been too young to remember.

She did however tell me that Heaton Park was where she lived and that they played in the whole park like it was one big backyard. This would have been in the mid 1950's and early 1960's.

Thank you for posting photos of the prefabs...I found some old photos of my mum outside some buildings that I assumed were holiday homes, now I have realised that they were photos taken outside the prefabs.
