Stirlingshire / Re: Stevenson's from Bannockburn
« on: Monday 18 July 11 13:25 BST (UK)  »
I had put my genealogy on hold since last fall and hadn't noticed the replies.  Please accept my apologies for not replying.

Robert, It would be great if we could find a connection somewhere for Alexander and William!  Somewhere I read that Alexander was a blacksmith in Scotland if that helps at all.
Hazel, about your reply #15, thanks so much for trying to find parents for my Alexander.  I think the family tree you found was mine on "A.......".  It's Stevenson/Hawkes.  I can't prove or disprove that he was born in Glasgow, the information was from his death registration.  A frustrating family to research - the first few children were born in Scotland and I can't find any records online for any of them.  And it's unfortunate that they emigrated to Canada before the 1841 census - they came here in 1834 to farm.  We are still farming the same land today and I think that's pretty cool!

Thanks again

A possibility?   1911 in Toronto West, - William, Elizabeth (widowed) and sister Eleanor are transcribed as "Renson".  I thought it odd that they were Irish, but then I think I found  Elizabeth's death in 1930.

Elizabeth Ranson b. 28 Feb 1848 Woodburn, Ontario died 2 May 1930 North York.  States she is a widow, Irish, housewife, address 97 McDougall Ave, North York.  father Thomas Griffith b Ireland.  gives no mother's name, but b. England.  Informant is Albert John Jacobs, son-in-law, same address, burial is in Aurora.

oops maybe not   :(    the 1871 marriage has James as her father.

Hi,

James, Catharine and their daughter Emma (m. Humphrey Tresidder) are all buried in the same plot in Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham.  Second wife Emma's obit states she's there too - sorry I must have missed her in the index  :-[
billow1, I have headstone photos and the obits of James, Catharine and 2nd wife Emma.  If you could pm me your email, I could send them to you.

Hi John,

Sorry, I don't have any information for you, but I am also researching a Lecocq family that were living in St. Anne, Alderney.  They are Lucas Lecocq bc 1810 Alderney and Rosanna Hoare Lecocq bc 1815 Guernsey.
It would be great if we have a connection!  :D

Hi janaridge,

Could these be yours?

Death of Owens, Evan Samuel, 85, Mar qtr 1903, Potterspury, vol 3b pg 16
Death of Owens, Lucy, 56, Mar qtr 1888, Potterspury, vol 3b pg 18
Her age is a little off  ???, maybe a 6 has been transcribed as a 5? Evan is a widower in 1891 and 1901 census so the date would fit (the place too).  I guess the only way to be sure is to purchase the document. Evan is still a widower in 1901 at 83yrs – are you sure he remarried?
OH - I just found Elias in 1851 as OWEN, Elias Dec qtr, 1851 Bangor vol 27 p 280   :)

Canada Lookup Request / Re: Minnie Forsythe - what happened to her?
« on: Wednesday 15 September 10 23:18 BST (UK)  »
In Vancouver BC in 1911, Mary Ann Forsyth, 28, b Ireland Feb 1883, lodger, stenographer, living with a Robert and Jennie Forsyth and family.  She states she immigrated in 1911.  Minnie's sister Isabella is also a stenographer in 1911 and so is Margret Forsyth (d/o Robert and Jennie Forsyth).

Doubtful, but there's a Minnie Forsythe who married Peter Wilson, Smithers, BC  21 Oct 1930.    http://www.bcarchives.bc.ca/bcarchives/default.aspx

Have you thought about him possibly emigrating, maybe even to Canada?  ???

Crossing the Canada/US border into British Columbia, Aug 1911 is W R Roberts, 37, miner, born N Wales, destination ?  could be Yukon, but I can’t read the handwriting.
There's other border crossing documents of William Roberts from Canada to the US and a couple of them state "no relatives".  Just a thought...
