John Bermingham, Esq. J.P. Millbrook, Tuam

I'm not sure what the J.P. stands for..

Would J.P. be Justice of the Peace.  Any upstanding layman can be a JP and sit as judge in local court sessions?
Yes he was a justice of the peace and a famous astronomer (Birmingham crater on the moon is named in his honour)

Dear Hodgkiss,
I came across this site and it might have something for you
http://www.tuamfamilyhistories.com/church_records/tuam_baptisms/tuam_baptisms_b.htm
It lists a John Birmingham born 1868 in Tuam to a Peter Birmingham and a Bridget Corless,
bye for now.

The name Keane is pronounced Kane or Cain in Galway area. Maybe it was changed (like many others) on arrival in U.S.A.  There are many Keanes in Galway.

Have a look in google maps. Start with Tuam area in North county Galway and go north to village of Milltown.
Stripe North is about 1km NE of Milltown on Galway/Mayo border. Addergoole is 2/3km east of Milltown. The graveyard is very old but many gravestones were cleaned up a few years ago.

I know that a McCormack family owned a large shop in Tuam for years up till about 1980 so the name is around.

There are three graveyards in Milltown parish- Kilclooney, Kilgevrin and Adergoole all of which have been used for years so your best bet might be adergoole on Milltown- Dunmore road.

Bye for now

OK If I see anything useful I'll pass it on.
Milltown is a parish on the Galway Mayo border which has at least 60 or 70 townlands. You can search the Irish 1901 and 1911 census for free on line. Check the DED areas of Milltown, Doonbally and Addergoole (they are all Milltown parish)and you might see a few Loughlins. Best of luck

Sorry to hear of your illness. I also have not done any research lately but I hope to get going over the summer. If I come across anything I will pass it on
