Ah ! So there maybe some other type of record which superceded the bastardy orders perhaps to enable the mother to collect from the child's father.

Very interesting to note these bonds were only used to a certain date. Thank you.

I doubt he was baptised . The birth cert does not show a father.

I've only recently understood a little bit about Bastardy Bonds .

What I am unsure of is would there have been a Bastardy Bond for someone born 1929 - Fulham. If so, where would I start to find this please? If not, what were the records for this at that time & are they available at all.

Any help gratefully received.

Thank you

Thanks for that. I've had a good look around the info and there is nothing that would point to an Elizabeth Polhill born abt 1686 married Richard Reddish of Castle Bytham.

It's so frustrating. So many of the trees have this as a marriage yet non have a source for either the marriage nor her birth .

I am beginning to think that something is awry and that the Richard Reddish in my tree  ( and others)  did not marry an Elizabeth Polhill but a Mary Derry.

Thank you both, RayB and Tup1, for taking out your own time to look .

It remains a mystery as to where the idea that an Elizabeth Polhill married this Richard Reddish originated.  I would love it to be so but not without records proof.

I did spend time looking again at the Castle Bytham parish records book via the LincsToPast website.

I did see 3 baptisms whose father was a Richard Reddish. However there is no mention of his wife's name at all.

1 - Elizabeth baptised 9 March 1717
2 - Richard 25 July 1725
3 - Mary 8 November 1721.

Looking again at the IGI Family search, the records actually don't mention the Mother's name at all .

So , not only am I unable to independently confirm the popular notion that his wife was an Elizabeth Polhill ( descendant of Oliver Cromwell ), I am also now unable to state her first name was Elizabeth.  :(

If Richard Reddish needed to be married by license for some reason, wouldn't he have done this in Lincolnshire and not Nottinghamshire?    This is in reference to the marriage I found online for an Richard Reddish who married an Elizabeth Crumwell.

When I look at FindMyPast I can also see a Lincs marriage record of 25 Feb 1716 where a Richard Reddish married a Mary Derry. - This would be a place called SKillington, Beltisloe.  Is this place close to Castle Bytham at all?

 ???

Hi and thanks for the reply.

I have tried to disciper the parish records from LincsToPast without much success. So very faded .

I suppose I was hoping that someone out there would be familiar with this marriage as so many of the trees seem to have made this jump back to Oliver Cromwell.

Strangely none of them show this marriage nor christening details for an Elizabeth Polhill.

Hi there from New Zealand.

I have become stuck trying to find the marriage of Richard Reddish (born 1686 Castle Bytham) to an Elizabeth - maiden name unknown .

I can 'see' their children all born Castle Bytham  via Family Search C03500-1 which tells me their Mother's name but no maiden name.

Firstborn is also an Elizabeth born 1717 at Castle Bytham.

One of my big confusions with this missing marriage record is that everywhere over the 'net with public on-line family trees and databases, the thought is that it was an Elizabeth Polhill b 1686.  Thing is , I can't find anything for this from where I sit here in New Zealand.

I can also see that there is a jump back on many of the trees and databases from Elizabeth Polhill to Thomas Polhill who married Elizabeth Ireton who was the daughter of Bridget Cromwell - daughter of Oliver Cromwell.  That in itself would be exciting if it could be proven but I can't even find a baptism for an Elizabeth Polhill born c 1686 which would be 3 yrs after Thomas Polhill died.

What I can also 'see' is a Richard Raddish married an Elizabeth Crumwell 1716 per Notts Archdeanery Marriage licence - Boyds 1st misc series.

I'm flummoxed & don't want to make assumptions about this marriage and possible lineage.

Any help & thoughts gratefully received.

O M Goodness.  :) I have just found this thread and so registered to post here.

After several years of stop /starting my family tree I have just got back into it again. Back then I was in the UK. These past 5 years though, I have been living in New Zealand so can't get to any hard copy records which is a huge shame  .

I've just found out from the 1841 census , that my grt , grt, grt grandad, John Blackmore,  was apparently a Waterman and Lighterman in London.  Wandsworth actually and seemed to live somewhere called 'Thames Bank' with his wife Maria and several children.
His date of birth approx 1791 from the census.

The 1951 census shows that he was still a Waterman and Lighterman living at 'Waterside ' still in Wandsworth.

Having looked up what the occupation was, I became quite excited to know that this was an actual licensed trade but a bit disappointed that there were no individual on-line records

I read from the thread that you, Suzey68 sometimes will look up the Waterman and Lightermen records for people.

If it's OK I was wondering if you could see if there is anything at all about these Blackmore folk and John Blackmore at this trade. I have read this can run in families.

I'll understand if you are inundated or simply too busy .

Can't offer anything in return unless you need something looked at here in Nelson, New Zealand but I would so appreciate anything you can help me with.  :-*
