Thank you so much. If anyone knows how or where I can find information of the Army Service Corp at Abbey House, Colchester during WW1 I would really appreciate it.

Regards

Some two or three years ago I posted a topic about my grandfathers time in the Army Service Corr in WW1. After a few replies it was then "Hijacked by someone asking about a William Merrill. Today I received a notification email about my topic only to be disappointed when opening it to find it was not information for me which I am still in hope of sorting out but a continuation of William Merrill. How do I get this "shifted" I do not want to unsubscribe from this line as one day maybe I will get the information I am hoping for

Thank you,

such a typical mistake to make not looking for alternative spellings! blame it on being tired and frustrated. Not only did I find the 41 but the 51 as well! may be with a bit of luck I will find his marriage to Mary and his later one to an Ann who he is with on the 61 and 71.

Much appreciated

England / 1841 census look up please Thomas B Burrows or Thomas Burrows
« on: Monday 04 August 14 23:13 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone look for a 1841  census entry. I have not been able to find Thomas Burrows on ancestry or freecen.com  but family search has him on a 1841 census at Cropwell Bishop has anyone got access to any other search engine where perhaps he might show up.

I have a marriage certificate for Ellen Burrows 20 March 1848 in Cropwell Bishop, Nottinghamshire.
father  Thomas B Burrows. In 1841 Ellen was not living at "home" but have a Thomas Burrows in 1861 and 71 census born 1796 Scarington, Nottinghamshire with two very young daughters aged 6 and 9 but no wife, living in Cropwell Bishop. I would really love to know who Ellens mother was so hope to see her on the 41 census. There is a Mary Burrows as a witness at the marriage but this could be a mother or sister. I have not been able to find a marriage in either Scarington or Cropwell Bishop or surrounding areas.

 ;D

Thank you both.

I gave Ron a call earlier on today and what a fantastic help he was explaining what I had to do to go about achieving the 15 line tree for my friend, as you say sooooooooooooooooo very reasonable.

Looks like many weeks of work and a real challenge ahead.

Thanks again

The Common Room / Printing of a 15 generation family tree
« on: Wednesday 23 July 14 19:36 BST (UK)  »

 ???
My friend having seen my recently printed 7 generation tree from Mycanvas via ancestry has asked me if I would like to put together her family tree which her father did long before computers by visiting churches, archive offices  and any where else he could find what he was looking for but sadly never had it all put together. There are 15 generations in many lines.

She does not have the kind of money needed to have it done by a professional. I feel very privileged to have been asked to attempt to do this and would like to say yes but it is quite a daunting task that I do not want to get wrong

I have an old version of family tree maker. I know given time I could put it all on there but where would I go from there. Are there other types of tree makers that are better and once again how would I go about eventually getting it all printed on a poster?

Make it simple for me!!!

Family History Beginners Board / Re: William parks
« on: Monday 24 March 14 10:30 GMT (UK)  »
Dawn Hi

This was a real bolt out of the blue it has been so long since researching the Parks family.

I really don't think I can say one way or the other if my William Parks born 1884 Mile End London(as stated on the 1891 census) is any thing to do with yours as I only have one record of him and that as the son of Henry William Parks (1836-1916.) As I said in an earlier posting he is down on the 1891 census as son of Henry William and mother Mary. The marriage I thought was of Henry William to a Mary Ann Harris in 1886 was not correct as that marriage was in fact Henry Williams son also Henry William to a Louisa Holton.
I have never found a birth for William around 1884 that I felt comfortable enough to send for a certificate. It might even be a transcription error on the census, his age could have been 1 instead of 7.
I have no idea as to his his mother is but feel that it may have been Henry Williams first wife Ann Ball's  sister Mary Ball as they came from Wiltshire but once again I have no proof.

Good luck in your search

Derbyshire / Re: George Henry Hunt a real PUZZLE

Spendlove Hi

I really appreciate your input on this one and because of it I feel confident that I have the right lineage for George Henry.

Looking through all the siblings of Mira and then her children after marriage it seems that most of them left home very young for work reasons, some appear occasionally again some dis sapear completely. Interesting that Mira/Mirah has a daughter Frances as does Emma Fox/Hunt, Emma also having a daughter Myra.

Emma Fox only appears on that one census, no birth for her that fits but then there are quite a few Emma Hunts births around the Belper area around the time so unless I find a baptism not really likely to have real confirmation.

Now to sort the Timmins/Timmons!

This plot thickens!

On the 1861 census they have a son John born 1850! two years before they marry.

John snr is not at his parents home on either the 41 or 51 census.

John jnr like his mother is nowhere to be found in 1851.

I cannot find him under any name i.e Colledge, Hunt or even Fox for a birth or a census? :-\

Why is Mira down as having been born Langley Mill unless of course her mother was working there at the time returning to Heanor to have Mira baptised.

Interesting she does have a daughter Frances so really do feel this the right person and that she is Emma's mother, Henry's grandmother and that would explain why Henry is listed as nephew on William Fox census in 1871.

No wonder Henry added the George to his name for respectability when his g grandmother. his grandmother and then his mother all had a child  before marriage.
