Australia / Two Jane Payne's , convicts , Australia. Which one is mine ?
« on: Thursday 08 February 18 11:35 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for my greatgreat grandmother Jane Payne who married my gggrandfather John Young in 1846 in Maitland area, New South Wales.
Another Jane Payne married Thomas Oakley the same year in NSW.
There are two convict Jane Payne’s. One arrived 1835 on th “Mary” after receiving 7 year sentence for Larceny at the Old Bailey and the other arrived 1841 on “Garland Grove” after receiving 10 year sentence at Somerset Quarter Sessions. I am trying to find which one is my Jane!
This is my last brick wall and I keep coming back to it. She wants me to find her!

Kent / Re: All Saints Maidstone Kent marriage lookup

Thank you so much scintilla. Much appreciated. The possible first wife Philadelphia has an unusual name. There must have been a fascination with America some where in the family. Richard's only child to survive to adulthood was named Richard John Mayflower Barnard. There were Barnard's among the early settlers in America and a Rev.Bernard was involved in the planning of "Mayflower".
Sounds intriguing but impossible to follow up.

Just to confuse the issue, both Richard Barnard's were Watermen and both in the Deptford area.
Richard Winstone Barnard born 29th April 1801 was apprenticed to his brother Thomas 1816 and made a Freeman of the Waterman's Company 4 March 1824. The other Richard Barnard was apprenticed to Isaac Jesson 8 February 1821 at Deptford but did not complete apprenticeship and became a Mariner instead. This is the one married Ann Jane Spacey (nee Toweraker). It is the wife of Richard Winstone Barnard I am trying to find.
I suspect they are  related, maybe first or second cousins.

Please could someone who has access to the marriage records for all Saints Church, Maidstone, Kent see if there is any added information for marriage of Richard Barnard to Ann Taylor on 22nd September 1829. It would appear that two Richard Barnard's married Ann's.
Richard Barnard married Ann Jane Spacey, widow, nee Toweraker in Bermondsey in 1837 and I think he may be the wrong Richard!

Is this the Lewis Grant born 1789 baptised 5/7/1789 son of William Grant and Margaret McDonald?
If so he was a brother of my ancestor James "The Pensioner"Grant. Do get in touch if we are the same family

According to my research, Charles' mother was Lillias McHardy and Elspet Stuart's father was William Stuart of Ballantruan and her mother (his wife) was Elspet Cameron.
Quote
You wouldn't by any chance know which Elspet Cameron married William Stuart? I am trying to find the one that married William Blair but there were two born in 1769, one to Donald Cameron & Janet Fife/Fyfe 23/5/1769 and one to Alexander Cameron & Margaret McQueen 12/11/1769. Could one of these ladies be wife of William Stuart?

Don't know if this is any help but Margaret Grassick didn't appear to marry Alexander Blair either although they had a son James Blair 1820-1881 who married Jessie McBean. They are living at Tomchrochar in Abernethy in 1871 census with their children Jane, Alexander, Peter, Margaret, John and Jessie. If anyone is connected to this family I have a photo of Jessie with her daughter Jane would be happy to pass on copies.
By the way Alexander Blair died 1838 age 40 and is buried with his parents William Blair and Elspet Cameron.

Margaret Grassick did not appear to marry Alexander Blair who died in 1838, age 40. Their son James b.1820-1881 married Jessie McBean and the family at living at Tomchrochar in Abernethy in 1871 census. I have a photograph of Jessie Blair (nee McBean) with her daughter Jane and would love to pass a copy on to her descendants. Jane married a Mr McKenzie 13th January 1894 at the Commercial Hotel in Keith. She died 8th June 1941 at Balliefurth, Granton-on-Spey.
Alexander Blair was son of William Blair and Elspet Cameron
