Australia / Re: SS Great Britain Passenger Lists
« on: Monday 05 May 25 08:41 BST (UK)  »
From the Public Record Office of Victoria the transcribed passenger list for Great Britain July 1874 lists Mr John Campbell A (Adult) and John Campbell 11. The original lists are very degraded and it was hard to decipher amongst the 601 passengers.
So not much help I'm afraid.

In your previous thread you discounted the death of Charles Gibson aged 2 in 1823. He was baptised in 1822 so he could have been BORN in 1821.. not unusual.
Also Martha was widowed with several chn. So with no apparent  income she would have most likely remarried.

Photo of James Trianor 1903.. looks quite old?

Family search has a probate jurisdiction for James Trainor camel driver who died 24/6/1910 at Mount Searle S.A. Affadavit by Ellen Trainor
Findagrave.com has burial site Port Augusta age 67 ( so if buried 1910, then born c 1843)

Australia / Re: John McKenna emigration to Melbourne

I spent some time tracing John McKenna and believe he was a warder/ chief warder at Pentridge Gaol, living in Coburg with wife Alice and family. The relevance of this is that the Vic Police Gazette has an entry for a John McKenna arrested Coburg Police Station April 1888, discharged 15/5/1888 for obscene language. Born Ireland, labourer.
Whilst this is not definite proof of the correct person, it could mean that he was in Victoria in 1888 which might help to narrow down his arrival. Can't find him at this stage though.

Probably the only way to find who was overseer between 1871 and 1877 is to go through NSW Colonial Secretary records, or Sheriffs papers which are online at NSW Archives. A big task or send NSW Archives an email and ask them how you should proceed. Good luck!

It seems that she took several surnames as you have stated and interestingly her death entry and burial (FindaGrave photo) is Christiana Maydwell with dau Lanthy Ethel Maydwell Povey b 1922. Is Ian Maydwell the father? it makes her 54 when dau born (not impossible)
An online family tree submitted by Malcolm IAnson suggests she had a relationship with  ? Armstrong in Tasmania after Oldbury.
Takes a bit to sort out!

From Findagrave website:
Elizabeth Maria Campbell Blanch
b 1821 d 3 Dec 1899
Buried Coraki Cemetery NSW with husband and chn. Emma d 1928, Thomas d 1931, Edward d 1931 George d 1960.

If you go to Trove.nla.gov.au and put "Blanch" in the search field, and NSW you will find a great deal of information about this family.
