Thank you for looking Trish, I've not found anything else so far so I'm giving it some thought.

Happy Easter

Hi Trish, thank you I've found that.  Loockin, another variation to add to the list!  Haha  ::)

And Emily had two little step brothers Charles and George.  Nice!

Now what I am stuck on is Ann's baptism, according to the census returns should be 1812 in Rudgwick.  Not there.  There is a Sarah born in 1809 to John and Amy Stanford in Rudgwick.  It's that name again - Amy.  Could they be her parents?  Trouble is, Stanford like Lovekin is spelt in multiple ways.

Hi everyone

Just thought I would update this thread as I have just had a major breakthrough in my brickwall, all these years later and I now know where the Lovekin name comes from and just in case it is useful to anyone else:

I will try to be brief:

Emily Stanford, mother of Helena Lorraine.  Ancestry trees had me believing for a long time that she was born 1833, Horsham backed up by all census returns and therefore daughter of Isaac and Mary Stanford in Horsham.  A few years ago I felt uneasy about this because I found Emily with her father in Horsham on the 1861 census which did not makes sense if she was having children over in East Sussex.

He died before 1871 and she was in the Union Workhouse for 1871 which meant if it was her, she appeared 3 times on the census, 1 in Horsham and 2 in Punnetts Town, see page 1 of this chat.  Impossible!  Also both those Horsham census returns state she was deaf and dumb.  I put it aside for a few years.

Then when the 1921 census came out I found Emily with one of her daughters, however she was called Amy!  Oh!

So I did a search a few weeks ago for Amy Stanford born in Horsham 1833 and lo and behold I found her baseborn to Ann Stanford.  Today I had a spare half an hour and decided to do a bit more searching and then my eureka moment!  Ann married later in 1833 to George Lovekin! So that's where the name came from.  Emily's stepfather!

Now I just need to find Emily, I found her on the 1841 census away from her family with a couple who as far as I know are unconnected, George and Mary Lintott.  But I still haven't found her on the 1851 census.  My search continues.

I just wanted to tell that to people who understand as my other half has just glazed over with that look, you know the one we genealogists get a lot!  LOL

There are numerous articles about the family on FindMyPast - newspapers
Thank you amondg

I did look at the newspapers on Findmypast but most were for what must be another part of the family in Sherborne rather than in Poole and not the direct line I am looking at.    Some of them were interesting though and had me going down a few rabbit holes!  LOL  Mind you I found a few relevant articles when I opened up the search beyond just Dorset.

Snippet 1PENNEY - from The Times and General Commercial Gazette, 15 May 1839 St John's
Snippet 2PENNEY - from Liverpool Albion 16 Sep 1839

Thank you Hanes teulu, that is interesting, Neaves is one of the other families having children registered in the book of the Quaker meeting in Poole at the same time as the Penneys.

Have you checked Ancestry for any Trees on the family?
Hi Carole

Thank you, yes Ancestry and other subscription sites covered for the tree building, which is where I am seeing rumours of something interesting.

Dorset / Penney family from Poole 1700s - 1800s

Hi

I am currently researching the Penney family from Poole for a client in Canada and have found various links to shipbuilding and Quakerism.  One of his 4x gr grandfathers emigrated to Newfoundland.  Just wondering if anyone has researched this family and knows of any useful websites, archives or books with any information about this family.  What I have found so far, they seem an interesting family!

Thank you

New to this forum! I have found the first people I’m related to! Hello! Steven pilbeam 1668 Is my 7th GG. I actually went back to 1529 to Richard pilbeame who is my 10th - but I would like to go through that chain again as I think I was being lazy.

This is the longest line I have managed so far. Anyway just thought I’d say hi! Let me know if you got any further back!
Hi Catherine and welcome to Rootschat.

I am descended from the same Pilbeam/e line.  At the top of my tree I have Richard Pilbeame who died 1591 in Heathfield and was married to unknown, he had a son Richard who died 1600 in Heathfield, again married to unknown.  I would be interested to know more about the birth year of 1529 and which one that applies to?  I haven't looked at the Pilbeam line in a few years now, maybe its time to relook at them!
