Occupation Interests / Re: 1907 railway death
« on: Friday 11 November 11 19:20 GMT (UK)  »
The Modern Records Centre at Warwick holds the archives of ASLEF. This includes membership lists in the annual reports. There are also reports of deaths in railway accidents for 1907 in the Railway Review and Records of Accidents.

The branch records do not usually contain membership information - they are administrative records. Membership registers of the ASRS (Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants) is partially indexed now  for members who joined between 1872-1888.

The Modern Records Centre at Warwick has just launched an index to the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants (later the NUR) covering the period 1872-1887, with a few out-of-sequence entries up to 1899.
This is for the first of many registers so watch this space...

Jackie

There is an index to all stonemasons obituaries for the Friendly Society of Operative Stonemasons of England, Ireland and Wales on the Modern Records Centre website - arranged alphabetically so you might find him there.

Good luck  :)

Hi

Just thought it would be useful to let people know about the index to stonemasons obituaries 1836-1880 now online at
http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/services/library/mrc/subject_guides/family_history/stone/

Warwick will be updating the index and adding more occupations in due course.

Happy hunting!

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / Re: St Mary's Newington - BROWN
« on: Monday 05 October 09 09:20 BST (UK)  »
Hi Valda

Yes I solved the death problem with his death certificate  - died 7th Sept 1845 - chronic asthma.

His marriage is still elusive though.  I've given up on this for now and will return to it later.
Thanks

Buckinghamshire Lookup Requests / Baptism - George LOVELL - Beachampton
« on: Thursday 23 July 09 13:28 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I'm looking for a baptism of George Lovell in Beachampton in about 1792. I also know he married a Sophia ? in 1816 in the same parish. Would anybody be able to look this up and tell me either George's parents or his wife's maiden name? I'd be very grateful.
Many thanks

Many thanks for this. I already have the birth certificates of the children (Southwark) but cannot find the parents marriage despite checking all obvious sources. I know about the LMA and Southwark services and have checked Pallots. I guess I'll have to go to LMA to get any further.
Thanks again

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / St Mary's Newington - BROWN
« on: Friday 17 July 09 11:03 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I'm new to RootsChat so I hope I'm doing this correctly.
I would like to get confirmation of a death/burial of a Daniel Brown in Newington in 1845. I've got two possibilities - one in Southwark and the Newington one which I think is more likely. The civil reg entry gives Jul-Sep 1845 but I'd like to check the burial registers of St Mary's. He was a brushmaker and would have been about 41.
I'm also having difficulty finding Daniel's marriage to Sarah ? which should be around 1830-1832 and probably in Newington.
If anyone can help I'd be very grateful.
Many thanks.  :)
