Hi Gwen,

Thank you for your message. It is still a brick wall for me as I haven't mastered the Indian records. I'm just hoping I have her father right as you're never sure if they've stuffed up the transcript or it was recorded wrong at the time. Any information would be great. Thank you. Charlene

Hi,

Thanks for that info. I did find the marriage to Charles and Mary Moore in Calcutta. The only strange thing I find is that on the Baptism it is listed as Henry as the father and again on Henry (Jr.) marriage his father again is listed as Henry. That is what I find strange. Very frustrating. Thanks again.

Armagh / Loughen Family
« on: Wednesday 10 October 12 09:41 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I am trying to find some info on the Loughen family. The info I have is of Patrick LOUGHEN born abt 1820 Roughgilly, Armagh. His parents as listed on his emirgration papers are John and Mary. His death Certificate in Australia shows the father as Patrick. He was married to Ellen Collins prior to leaving in 1843 on the ship 'Herald' for Australia which arrived Jan 1844. No children listed. The surname on shipping records is LOUGHLAN
I have many variations once he arrives in Australia which as as follows:
Loughen
Lockery
Lockeren
Loughlan
Lurnan
Loughrane
Lachin
Loughren

These variations are found on his death cert, his wife's death cert and all his childrens birth certificates. There seems to be a huge mess up with the name as by the time the children marry and die it changes to Lockery.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as records in Ireland are difficult to find. Thanks

Charlene

Hi Sandra,

Thanks for the info. I do have that obituary and unfortunately I'm unable to match the parents together so it has left me stuck. Thats why I was hoping I could possibly find his military record an it may have his parents on it. But now that you've helped with the SSN I may be able to locate it. Cheers.

Hi,

I am trying to gain some info on Horace James Morgan, B: 6 June 1917 or 16th July 1917 in Mississippi D: 13 June 2004 in Texas. I recently found a record that states he joined the army on the 7 July 1938. I'm hoping to get some info from his enlistment records BUT am unable to locate them on Ancestry or Fold 3. I thought I had his SSN on the Social Security Death Index but am unable to locate the number now. He may have live in Louisiana at some point and I found a 1930 Census with a Horace J Morgan at Fort Worth. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Hi tony,

I have tried the variation. Also most search engines seem to pick up the variation also.

Cheers

Hi all,

I am trying to break a brick wall in my family tree but unfortunately I am getting limited info on FIBIS and Family Search. I am wondering if anyone may have any tips on how to get info or even certificates from India.
I am trying to research William LAWRY who is described as a Ship Captain on Family Serach when he married Isabella Wortley PORTEOUS in 1865 in Calcutta (I am unsure of where and when she is born). There is a listing on Lloyd's Register of Ship Captains for two William Lawry's but after looking at the 2 it appears plausible that he was born in 1825 at St Just, Cornwall and was registered as a Captain in 1855 (I am unable to find a ship listed where he is the master but I have many more listings to go through).
William LAWRY had 4 children (John Alfred, Arthur Edmund, Mary Hannah and Blanche Winifred) with Isabella in Calcutta and I found what I believe to be his death in 1884 in Calcutta. Isabella died in Calcutta in 1904 (she appears to have not remarried).
I have Isabella's fathers name as William H Porteous. William is a little harder as the LAWRY's seem to be a relatively common family in Cornwall at the time.
If anyone could help with any ideas to confirm parentage or even where I could find further info in regards to the ship's and their Captains/Masters (I'm searching Lloyd's Register of Shipping) I would be grateful.

Thanks.

US Lookup Requests / Re: Harry John Dayton Buffalo New York

Thanks for all the replies.

I haven't actually seen the 1900 census so that does help. I've only seen the 1898 one.

The reason I'm unsure of John G Dayton is because it is listed that he marries Hannah, so I'm wondering if there's two John G Dayton's, but it seems unlikely. So who is Hannah and who is Mary? There is a John Guernsey Dayton born in 1787 who is John G Dayton's Grandfather and he is married to a Hannah Beardsley but the dates don't add up.

Well, have to keep trying and fix this mess up.
Thanks.

Char
