Hi Helen
Mary Bird Wicks (1779-1820) was John Gibbons' first wife.  His second wife was Catherine Howard.

I would be interested to find out any information, if you have it, of John Thomas Gibbons + Emma Hatch - in particular their children - Robert, Joseph, Catherine, etc

I know that Catherine was born at Easthampstead Union in 1848 - I believe the family were there after John Thomas Gibbons' bankruptcy in 1844 and before the family emigrated to Australia in 1849.

We found Robert Gibbons (1846) in Victoria, Australia but his death and marriage certs list his parents as John Thomas Gibbons and Eliza Susan unknown; Joseph Gibbons was found in NSW through a death listing (1917) showing his parents as John Thomas and Emma.

I look forward to hearing from you

I have just found Catherine Gibbons' birth certificate.  Catherine was the Daughter of John Thomas GIBBONS and Emma HATCH.  It lists the registration district as Easthampstead Union - does this mean she was born in the workhouse?  or did "Union" refer to a wider parish?  I know that John Thomas Gibbons went bankrupt in 1844 - and emigrated to Australia in 1849.  But my info tells me he was one of the Great Marlow Gibbons so I'm surprised that another family member did not help the family out..

Grateful if someone could help with this - John Thomas is something of an enigma to me.

cheers, dale

Hello there
John Thomas Gibbons (1809) is my ancestor.  His father was John Gibbons (1784),  the brother of your Richard (1791).

John Thomas Gibbons was married to Emma Hatch and emigrated to Victoria, Australia in 1849.  He died in 1852.

I'd be very interested in swapping information

Apologies if you already have this information = William Edward Gibbons (bn 1826) died at sea (18 Sept 1856).  He was a passenger on the ship "Norfolk" bound for Australia.  He died intestate, he was a coal merchant.  His letters of administration are available at the National Archives (England) D-XI/77 1865-1872 and D-X19/1 6 Dec 1866  His wife, elizabeth is in the Census (1861??) as widowed.

!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have just found a baptism for William Edward Gibbons son of Thomas and Sarah Gibbons Born 3.1.1826 Bap:16.4.1826. (Coal Merchant)
Look forward to your comments.

*** This William is (I think) the William married to Elizabeth who appears in the 1861 census as a coal merchant.  I wonder where they got married?  In the 1851 census there is a William married to an Elizabeth who is farming 150 acres in Hughenden, but I suspect it may be a different William.  But there is no William living in Marlow in 1851, so I am confused.  Perhaps he was outside the county in 1851, in fact his brother Thomas Bell and wife were in Wales!***

Hello
I read your posts with great interest.  My 3xgreat grandfather was John Thomas Gibbons.  His father was John Gibbons (1784 - 1861), whose father was Thomas Gibbons (1745-1824).  The family were brewers and merchants in Great Marlow.

John Thomas Gibbons was a grocer in Eton in the 1841 Census.  We went bankrupt in 1844, discharged in 1846 and emigrated to Australia in 1849, dying in about 1852.

I'm very very interested in any information you might have on the family

I'm particularly interested in Robert Gibbons (abt 1845) who was married to Margaret Liddle and was involved in the Ned Kelly incident in Eureka.  On his death cert Robert's father was listed as John Thomas and is mother Eliza Susan (unknown).  hmmm... John Thomas was married to Emma Hatch.

I look forward to hearing from you - dale
