Ireland / Williamson and Hook marriage
« on: Sunday 24 July 11 02:39 BST (UK)  »
James Williamson married Elizabeth Hook - both were born and married in Ireland.  They had at least 2 sons - Samuel born abt 1832 and Hugh abt 1835 both in Ireland. Sometime prior to the Scottish Census of 1851 they moved to Merryston, Lanarkshire, Scotland.  By 1861 they appear to have moved to Dunipace in Stirlingshire ( 1861 Scottish Census).  Hugh seems to have died in 1867 and Samuel is shown as reporting his death on death extract. About 1854,Samuel married ( in Monkland, Lanarkshire) a Sarah ( born in Ireland)  - Sarah appears to have had two sons by a previous marriage -Robert and Hugh (they were born in Scotland).  Sarah's maiden name or 1st married name could have been Martin.  There is then a reference to a similar family in the 1880 US census for Smith Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania,USA.

Can anyone help me with the Irish part of this story?

Thanks

Stirlingshire / Re: Hook or Cook family in Denny, Dunipace area

Thanks Billy,

Digging deeper, I think the person was Elizabeth Hook who was born in Ireland and married a Williamson in Ireland.  They came to Denny Dunipace about the time there was strikes at the iron works or mines and lived in miners houses at Milton Row.   There may have been a large Irish contingent who came to break the strikes.  Are there any records for these workers.

Thanks again

Banffshire / Woods (Doo) in Banff
« on: Saturday 29 January 11 02:49 GMT (UK)  »
In the middle of the 19th century, the town council of Banff was anxious to invest in the fishing industry. They tried to attract fishermen from established fishing towns to Banff.  Among the first to go were the brothers James and Alexander Wood from Portknockie.  They were the sons of William Wood and Catherine Mair.   Does anyone have any info on James and Alexander or their families.
Thanks
