The Common Room / 1911 census
« on: Thursday 08 November 12 18:41 GMT (UK)  »
Hi - it's  a bit of a cheek but can anyone help?

I am looking  at the 1911 census for Florence Venn who was born in 1889. On the 1911 census she is living in Darenth near Dartford in an industrial home. She was estranged from her family as a small child. On the website I use the final column is still blacked out. Could anyone  check on any other websites to see what her medical status was - eg imbecile feeble minded etc.

Many thanks in advance

Sarah

London and Middlesex / Banstead asylum records
« on: Tuesday 03 July 12 08:53 BST (UK)  »
Help! I've made such a rookie mistake and i'm really cross with myself!

A while ago on a well known website I found records of my ancestor in Banstead asylum - the records were really detailed and I printed them off. All I recorded on paper was that they were from the london poor law lunatic register for Banstead! I can't believe I didn't write page numbers etc down!!

Anyway - does anyone know how I can go about finding those records again - I've tried looking at Lambeth but I'm at a dead end - Where did I find them????  I'm not expecting anyone to do the work for me but please point me in the right direction

Many Thanks Sarah

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Re: lambeth archives
« on: Monday 02 July 12 20:19 BST (UK)  »
Thank you Trevor,

His name was Frederick Venn, he was born in 1870 and married to Florence. His daughter, also called Florence was born in 1889. Records show that he was imprisoned for a month in Oct 1892 for deserting his daughter. When I spoke to Lambeth Archives earlier they suggested the South London Press might have info?!

Thank you again for taking the time to read this and to help

Hi, Is anyone going to Lambeth Archives in the near future? Is so would it be possible to look something up for me? My ancestor was imprisoned in October 1892 for deserting his wife and daughter. He served one month in prison. I'd be interested in whether it was recorded in the newspaper - If anyone could help I'd be very grateful.

The Common Room / 1907 inquest
« on: Wednesday 28 March 12 08:15 BST (UK)  »
I've just found out from chatting with my great aunt that her aunt died aged three from burning to death from matches. I will send for her death certificate but if there was an inquest where would I find it.
Her name was Lilian Chandler and she died in 1907. Her parents were samuel and Ellen and they lived in Southwark. Any advice would be appreciated,

Sarah

The Common Room / which workhouse?
« on: Monday 16 January 12 10:15 GMT (UK)  »
Hi - have found an Esther Ballard in newington workhouse westmoreland rd in 1911. She enters the workhouse in December 1908 according to the creed register. There is no information recorded as to when she leaves - although I know she is living with her granddaughter's family in 1925 as she appears on the electoral register. The creed register says she is admitted from st georges? I'm not sure what that means - any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks Jen for looking  :) Lizzie - Florence's brother was also in an institution and he is listed as feeble minded. Checking on different websites it seems it was all down to IQ.
