Stuart Harris's "Place names of Edinburgh" lists Jollie's Close (595 High Street) and is listed on Ainslie 1780 and was named after a family, including Patrick Jollie and (later) Alexander Jollie, writer who owned a tenement at the head of the close.

2 Forrest Road was the address of the Edinburgh Parochial Board offices whose duties were taken over by the City Council and any records may now be held by the City Archives.

Now the " Hotel du Vin which has uniquely styled bedrooms in a former city asylum".

Thank you all.    I was looking for a place name and having seen a similar word on other entries I wrongly assumed that it was a place name.   It turns out be "witness".    Picking up new glasses today.

My reckoning is Old Calton Cemetery.    There is an outstanding old stone for a Capt John Gray (no dates) but before 1732 which could be the reference point.
