wow! it's been 18 months since i been on here......so much has happened including moving house and ill health which has restricted me greatly in my family research......... thanx to all those that have replied.....now trying to pick up where i left off.....i have taken the advice given.....and am tracing back through the tree's for William Robert Guthrie and Christina Rennie Tough and census supplied by Laurina (see below)

Possible marriage 1886 on SP - William Guthrie / Christina

1891 Census 17/20/7 - 8 Crown Street, Leith

Christina R Guthrie 28 Head -  Aberdeen - Captus wife (could this be captain's wife)
Elizabeth N K Guthrie 3  Daug - Leith
Harry Guthrie 2  Son - Leith
William R Guthrie 6 Mo  Son - Leith
Maggie Donaldson 14  Servant

1901 Census  82/14/22 - 2 Gosford Place, Edinburgh

Christina Guthrie 38  Head - Aberdeen
Elizabeth K Guthrie 12  Daug - Leith
Harry Guthrie 11  Son - Leith

.......i am still without concrete proof that these are my great grand parents though.......although, the childrens names in the 1901 census also are of interest to me as some of my dads sisters have these as middle names......so this may be a clue.....thanx again everyone

hi
i watch the programme every morning and have done from the time it started....also watch the re-runs on the satellite channels.....yea i know, sad sack! .... but it has helped me with certain parts of my genealogy as to what i should be looking at or for......but im rather stuck and dont know where to turn/look with this one....info i have is limited

william robertson guthrie, apparently born march 1888 in scotland (edinburgh?) died 1962 in london.....i have sub to scotlands people and their census etc....found possibilities but nothing concrete.....not sure finding a will, will help me as i know all his children, spouse etc and im pretty sure it wouldnt have included his parents or siblings as according to my father he didnt have contact with them and my dad knew nothing about them or ever met them....he served in royal navy on the HMS Shannon sometime in the early 1900's....i have a picture of him in hius uniform......the Shannon served at the battle of Jutland in may 1916......i searched for musters etc at the TNA and they really have not been at all helpful.....i know nothing of his parents, siblings, grandparents etc and would love to find out as he is my grandfather.....if there is anyone out there that could point me in the right direction i would be so grateful.....this one has been a brick wall for so long......many years in fact.....i cant even do the DNA thing as it has to be a direct male descendant and my dad is deceased :(
