Hi Carrie,

That is interesting as it is the same family that forms part of that side of my direct line.

I was really curious if Andrew C Robertson, b 1866, middle name was Coltman as Andrew Coltman was married to a Hutton family member.

A William Robertsin married a Jean Hutton in Musselburgh (where I grew up) and had a daughter Margaret Smith Robertson b Musselburgh 1817.

I thought the likliest Margaret Smith was born 1822 in Musselburgh to John Smith and Elizabeth Aitken. She had a sister Janet Rogers Smith. I am not certain if these surnames crop up as middle names later which would suggest 'some' connection?

Be great to know middle names of William Robertsons and Margaret Smiths children. The eldest daughter of theirs being Elizabeth supports a potential link to Elizabeth Aitken by naming convention although iut is a very commoin name, BUT not particularly in Musselburgh at that time. Graham

Ann, Further to message a couople of minutes ago, forgot to ask if you know if the C in Andrew C Robertson stands for Coltman, as an Andrew Coltman married into the line at that time.

Hi Ann,

It is the samer family. They married, 2 12 1853 in Inveresk. Have you got details for deaths of William and Margaret?  Ocupation of William would assist too, I can then track down on earlier Scotiish Census records.

This could well be in my direct line.

Did you trace them back to Margaret Smith Robertson, daughter of William Robertson and Jean (Jane) Hutton of Inveresk (Musselburgh/Prestonpans)

She was daughter of Charles Hutton, my direct line.

I would be interested for other info if so. I have 5000 Hutton names in Scotland and also much on the Robertsion family, farmers and potters in the main, re that family.

poppysmum,

I am interested in the Blackies that were watchmakers in Musselburgh. My direct line Charles Hutton had a brother George Hutton in Inveresk who worked for a George Blackie and George Blackie was witness at his wedding.  Any info on George Blackie be very welcome.
