Many thanks everybody  - that's so helpful.  I think we know who she is now if we conclude she was probably born around 1840 -45.

The photographers studio is W. Woodbury, Manchester, if that is any help.  We know the name of this young woman - it's  written on the back of the photo but because there were several of the same name in the family we are not sure which of them she is - a rough date would be really helpful.  Her name was Anne Hince but became Mrs Davies if anyone is able to look her up and probably lived in Manchester but may have originated from Shropshire.  Thanks.

Shropshire / William Hince
« on: Saturday 22 August 09 19:37 BST (UK)  »
For anybody researching the Hince family from Munslow this is a photo of William Hince, born 1805, married to Mary.  He was a tenant of the White House, Munslow, which I believe still exists.  The Hinces had been living in Munslow since at least the mid 17th century and there are entries in the church register regarding the family from then on.  The earliest I know of is 1667 and believe the name was spelt 'Hints' in the register, appearing as 'Hince' in the mid 1700's.

I'm delighted to meet you Pat - there must be a lot of us out there as descendants of nine children but I'm only in contact with two other distant cousins.

Hi Prue!

It's a reply on the Shropshire Lookup Requests - perhaps that board won't let me - I'll have a look. Thanks for your help.

How to Use RootsChat (Please don't post requests here) / Photo attachment problem
« on: Thursday 30 July 09 10:30 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to attach a photo to my message but when I click on the 'Attach a photograph or image...' the 'Attach' and 'Browse' lline doesn't appear, only the three little boxes and options above that line. Does anyone know how to rectify this?

Have just looked at all the links you've found for me - a mystery has been solved at last! I also looked at the website for Kelowna and can see why he wanted to settle there.  Fabulous scenery compared to industrial Manchester of the early 1900's - no comparison.

Many thanks everybody - the family was from Heaton Chapel so could well be him. I'll follow up the links.
