Australia / Daniel Gerald MCSWEENEY in Toowoomba
« on: Friday 31 July 09 16:22 BST (UK)  »
First of all, thanks to all those who helped out with my former request to find info on this ancestor's death. I now have a copy of his death certificate, which was the best-case scenario. MANY THANKS!

I found out some details from his death certificate that I want more info about. The first is that before his death (3 June 1930), he was a patient at the Hospital for the Insane in Toowoomba. It occured to me that his medical records might be obtainable. On a different forum, I learned that these records are currently housed at the Baillie Henderson Hospital. My question is: what are my options? If I got someone to go there for me, is it a simple matter of them asking for these old records over the counter, so to speak? Failing that, what else can I hope to do from over here in distant, isolated Perth?

Another detail was that he was buried in the Drayton Cemetery in Toowoomba. On the website http://ww2.toowoombarc.qld.gov.au/index.php?option=com_gravefinder&view=burials&Itemid=2, his burial record says: "Headstone: Unknown". Does this mean that he never had a headstone? I heard a rumour that mental patients were sometimes buried in unmarked graves. How come?

Finally, one of the causes of death was "hypostatie" (the others were senility and exhaustion), but haven't been able to find out what that is. Any ideas?

Hoping that someone more experienced than I can answer these questions...

Cheers,
PianoMan

I was afraid you'd say that. I'm in Perth, and holidaying in QLD isn't an option for me at the moment.

Thanks for everyone's help and input! I've got a few more leads now! Much appreciated!

Thanks for that! Yes I can confirm, the Daniel Gerald that was married to Margaret Olive is definitely the son of the DG married to Louisa.

If Daniel Gerald (Snr) does not appear on any electoral rolls after 1925, how safe is it to assume that he died before the next roll was published (1931??)?

Also, I'm interested in actually obtaining a copy of his death certificate--how can I be sure of its existence (in QLD) before I start commiting any money...?

Australia / Lookup Request for Daniel Gerald MCSWEENEY in QLD
« on: Sunday 28 June 09 06:05 BST (UK)  »
I'm searching for information on the death of my ancestor Daniel Gerald MCSWEENEY, born 2 May 1865 in Killarney, Ireland, married Louisa Atkinson in Shepparton, VIC, Australia, and likely lived in later life (1913 onwards) in Baking Board, QLD, Australia. Searches for his death registration on the online indexes for VIC, NSW, and QLD have been fruitless. I suspect that he lived out his life in QLD (as a farmer) and that he died after 1929, which is the upper limit of the online index for QLD. Anybody willing and able to help me find information on his death would be much appreciated!  ~PianoMan

I'm having a similar problem--I have an ancestor who probably died in Queensland after 1929 and I don't know any way of checking to see if there is any record of his death. The last thing I'm fairly sure of is that he lived in Baking Board, QLD, during WW1. Any suggestions?
