Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Re: Pevreal family

Hi pavreal
We are indeed related. There are various renditions of our name, some quite obscure.
Your great grandfather Israel Evan b1879 in Cambridge was my grandfather Richards older brother.
We come down the branch of the same family tree.My great grandfather was William Henry Pevreal b1851 in Chepstow. He came to NZ as a child with his father William Henry(same name)and mother Elizabeth and siblings,in July 1863 on the Portland.
William signed on to the 2nd Waikato Militia(story there) 4th Company,as the NZ war had begun. The 4th company landed on the banks of the Waikato river and founded  what was to become the city of Hamilton. He was allotted a land grant (382) and settled his family there. He died there in 1872 and is buried in Hamilton West cemetery
If you would like to contact me there is much more to tell.I recently visited Hewelsfield where the family came from(picture postcard stuff)and have photos of the old church there

Hi Tati
Thanks for the message.Yes Israel is a bit of a mystery. There  is no record over here of his presence at all.I suspect that he may have perished on the voyage out here. His unusual name has lived on in subsequent generations.
Would be very keen to know of references to the earlier generations.William Henry Pevreal must have had family, living at or nearby ,Hewelsfield (siblings, extended family)
Big deal to uproot the whole family plus one son in law,a John Thomas King (married to Sarah Ann)and their child,3yr old William Henry Thomas King.It was always going to be a one way trip.

Wondering if somebody could help with the 18-19th century family connection with Hewelsfield/chepstow.My family emigrated to NZ in 1863.
William Henry Pevreal (Peveril) b1819 Hewelsfield and elizabeth nee Rossiter b 1818 chepstow. They had 5 children, all born in Chepstow -- sarah, harriet, mary ann, william and george ,who accompanied their parents to NZ.
The name has morphed into a few variations which brings a bit of mystery-- pevreal, peverel peveril to name a few.
When they left the uk they must have left extended family behind or at least some record of their presence.Hoping for some traces to get me started on the family past
