Hi Marlene
I think your G-father George Frederick was perhaps the younger brother of my GG-father, Francis Augustus. 1871 Census has your George Frederick, aged 14 (i.e. born ca. 1857-58) living Unicorn Hill with parents Francis 38 and Ann 38. Francis Augustus married Mary Ann Moberley 1871 and my G-father George Frederick born 1873.
Been to Warwick Records today. Parish register shows birth Benjamin as 02 Sept 1812 and baptism 06 Sept 1812, but listed as illegitimate son of Ann Baylis. How did you trace Ann's ancestors to Redditch and back to Bidford?
Regards
Gary

Hi Marlene
Very interested to read your info regarding Benjamin Baylis and to see that you are descended from Francis's daughter, Florence. The only mention of Florence I've found is the 1880 Census record at Beoley Road and this gives her age as 24, but I can't see her mentioned in the 1871 Census record at Unicorn Hill, when she would supposedly be 14.  I'd be particularly interested to know more about the Baylis family generations preceding Benjamin if you can let me have any more details.
Regards
Gary

Hi Keith.
I believe that Benjamin Baylis was my 5 x great grandfather. His son, Francis eventually took over the grocer's shop in Red Lion Street. Francis was a carpenter by trade and his son, Francis Augustus, was my great grandfather. My grandfather, George Frederick, died in 1927, so I never met him. His son, Eric, born in 1914, was my father.
Benjamin's wife was Georgianna Angelina (maiden name Harrington) born in Devonport. I believe that Benjamin was born in September 1912 in Studley and his mother's name was Ann. That's as far back as I have been able to go as yet. If you manage to get a photo of the shop in Red Lion Street, please let me know. I'd also be interested to know how your friend Martyn is related to Benjamin.
Regards
Gary
