Hi Andrew!

I'm so sorry for delay. Only recently come across email. I stopped doing my family tree a while ago as I came up on some dead ends.

It's great to hear from you :) I spoke to my mum about your message last night and she told me about another few of your grandfather's children. Which of the children is your parent?

I hope you don't mind me asking but is your grandfather still alive?

Also do you have any information on Mary? Is she still alive?

I guess we're half cousins then!

Thanks for replying.

Armed Forces / Patrick Naughton - 51st South Yorkshire Regiment

I wonder if anyone can help me.

I am researching my family tree and know that my great great great grandfather born 1837 in Galway served as a private in the 51st South Yorkshire Regiment in India in the late 1800's.

I have recently found out that he had a military gun salute at his funeral in October 1912 but do not know why he had this nor where he was buried.

I would be very interested in finding out any of his military history but do not know where to find it.

Hope someone out there may be able to help.

Thank you.

With kind regards.

Jenna Butler.

Hi, just trying to trace some ancestors - Patrick (b.1873) and Mary Butler who in 1911 were living in York Road, Kingstown (no.1?)  Dublin.
Their son Thomas Joseph was my Grandfather and moved over to England sometime between 1911 and 1934.
Would really appreciate any info on where they lived or any tips on finding relavant sites with information on anything about their ancestors or what happened to them between 1911 and my grandad emigrating to england.

Kind regards Jenna

Hi again,
Just located the census form with thomas joseph on. I'm pretty certain as his father was Patrick Butler who was a whitesmith by trade.
And low and behold there is a partick and mary butler in Co. Dublin with a son Thomas Joseph 3 weeks old as the census is dated April 2nd 1911 makes it very conclusive.

Many thanks all

I am trying to locate details of my grandfather Thomas Joseph Butler who was born 23rd March 1911.

I have looked on the BMD records but none of them match and I have an idea that he may have been born in Ireland.

Thomas married Eleanor Bateman in February 1934 and they lived in Hulme.

I would be very grateful to anyone who has any information on my grandfather.

Thank you.

Lancashire / Simpson Hill, Bury

I'm trying to locate details of what and where Simpson Hill in Bury are.

It appears that my great grandmother Ruth Heywood (nee Taylor) was residing there and gave birth to her son Donald there in 1921.  The father was not known so I am wondering if Simpson Hill was some form of institution.

If anyone has any information on Simpson Hill I'd love to hear from you.

Galway / Re: Patrick Naughton

Hi Migky,

Thank you very much for your helpful responses.  I did find Patrick Naughton on the 1901 census on Ancestory but as you have to pay to view the records (I am subscribed on findmypast.com which up until a few weeks ago did not have Lancashire on it) I only saw the basic info which said he was living with the McGing family but it did not give any relation to the head so I just presumed that he was lodging there with Catherine.

When I got your message yesterday giving me the census number etc (again, thank you very much for that, very helpful) I typed this in findmypast.com and it came up as being the father in law of the McGings!  On closer inspection of the original census record the family was actually call Mcgarry but the quality of the document was very poor so an easy mistake for them to make.

I never even knew Patrick had another daughter!  I knew he had Mary in 1876 and Catherine in 1880 but presumed that was that!  I had a look in the overseas birth records and found Teresa born in 1874.

In relation to your other message I have already obtained a copy of Catherine's birth certificate which is the only reason I found out about Bridget.  However, this does not give me Bridget's surname.

I am struggling somewhat trying to find anything out about Patrick or Bridget.  I went on to the website you kindly suggested and paid 5 euros for what I thought was the right marriage and it turned out to be incorrect!

Sorry to bother you for more help but you mentioned in your post about me trying to find Patrick's service/pension record.  Do you have any idea where I might find this as again I'm struggling to find any information from his army days.

Thank you again for all your help.

Regards

Lancashire / Mary Fone (nee Heywood) and Donald Taylor Manchester
« on: Sunday 21 June 09 20:49 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find out whether my Grandmother's sister Mary Fone (nee Heywood) (my great Aunt) and their half brother Donald Taylor (my great Uncle) (born in Bury) are still alive.

We know that Mary was living in Wythenshawe in the 1990's and we think Donald was also living in the vicinity.

Mary Fone was born on 15th August 1925 and married Derek Fone.  They had two children Denise and Stephen.

Donald was born on 9th June 1921.  He married Marion Taylor (nee Adams) and had Donald Jr, Peter, David and Marilyn.  They did have more children but I am unsure of their names.

Does any one have any information on either Mary or Donald?  I would love to find out what happened to them.

I'm 99% sure that the dates are correct but I may be wrong.

Galway / Patrick Naughton
« on: Sunday 21 June 09 20:39 BST (UK)  »
I am searching for ancestors of Patrick Naughton born in Galway around 1837.  He was married to Bridget but I do not have her maiden name or when or where they were married.

They had two daughters.  Mary J born in 1876 and Catherine Maud born 1880(my GG grandmother).  Both were born in India where Patrick was serving with the 51st Regiment of the K.O Light Infantry.

He is on the 1891 census living in Manchester with his two daughters described as a widower so Bridget must have died and in the 1911 census he was living with his son in law William Henry Heywood (my gg Grandfather) in Manchester.

I would love to find out any information on his parents and/or Bridget.

If any one has any link to the Naughton family in their tree I would love to hear from you.

Regards

Jenna
