Thanks. I likely was the first poster asking about the parents of Daniel Dickerson c 1775 who was a member of the Wattisham Baptist Church in the early 1800s. I have just come back to rootschat after many years and just saw this. I have come to the same conclusion as you I think but without hard evidence but who else could it be kind of reasoning.

Thanks Findem, the Essex Record site is a useful one to hear about.
The info I have re records differ slightly from those on the essex cc. site.
In 'My Ancestors were Baptists' by Geoffrey R Breed, the Eld Lane records are as follows,
Births 1767  - 1837  RG4/1510
Burials 1788 - 1807    "      "
Burials 1816 - 1837  RG4/801

Hepzibah

Just to close the loop.  No luck at Eld Lane for Daniel Dickerson and no Dickersons per se.  Thanks for the suggestion though Findem.  Perhaps others will have more luck. Barbara

It sounds as if you have done a lot of work on the Dickersons in the Ipswich area and I would be very happy to make contact privately.  My email address is (*)t.  Thanks a lot.  Barbara (Dickerson) Turnham formerly of Ipswich but a long-time Washington DC resident!.

Actually I haven't looked outside of Suffolk.  Do you know by any chance if the Colchester records are online and what period they cover as, as I said before, I have found little before the beginning of the 19th century in general?

You mention the interactions between the Baptist congregations and I think that my Daniel probably ended up in the Wattisham area because the congregation in that area  walked to Woolverstone to worship after getting disillusioned with the Bildeston Baptist which of course was nearer.  My guess is that he met his future wife that way and moved from Wherstead but this is definitely in the realms of conjecture!

Thanks for this suggestion Hephzibah but I have looked at Stoke Baptist records and any other records for Baptists in the area and nothing.  The main problem is that they are not that old and my Daniel was in the Wattisham Baptist area in 1800.  I have gone to extraordinary lengths I think to find Baptist information even going to Oxford to look at Bildeston Baptist records in a small library there (hard to get into unless you know an academic there which I did) with no luck.  I am hoping for a family bible or some personal record like that to turn up but they were not affluent so probably unlikely.

Hi,

Do you have the details of Daniel Dickerson resident in Woolverston c. 1773? He married and was buried there in C of E but no baptisms of any children in the C of E registers. In that your Daniel was born c. 1775 there could be a connection. Would be glad to share the details I have should you need.

Stephen

Hi Stephen
My Daniel married in 1800 in Ringshall and registered his children in a Baptist church near there so wasn't the same Daniel as you have.  If  you email me at (*) I can put you in touch with the person who knows about the Bucklesham area Dickersons which is probably the same family as your Daniel.

I have a sideline of a David Dickerson born Barking c1801 who married Alice Ramplin in Coombs in 1824 and they had their children in Hitcham, which is where Alice was from.  I don't have a baptism for David so don't know his father was as I'm only researching the Ramplin(g)s of Hitcham.  Have you looked a all the CofE parishes in that area?

Hello

I have the details for David who is in my family if you want to email me at (*).

Thanks Pat and hope you are well.  I am attaching a pic of the list with the belong place in it for others to see but I think Wherstead is it and in any case there is nothing in the C of E records for either Wherstead (went to the church there when last in Ipswich) or Whepstead.  I can only hope more Baptist records are found (not likely unfortunately) or someone has a family bible out there!
