Hi ,  I know that the sisters husbands were not brothers as Donald Davidson parents were William Davidson and Janet(Jessie) Anderson but  I was wondering if the two men were at all related and if so how ie. cousins

Hi Dollymixture,

I believe your correct on having the right John Davidson married to Margaret Shearer. I checked John b1850 and his other siblings marriage and death records and their father Donald Davidson  occupation on the records were all the same.  As to the age differences on the census, that happen alot. For example Donald and Margaret's Davidson grandchildren by their son William b. 1844 , my great grandfather James Tulloch Davidson b 1866 and his brother Donald b 1864 ages varied by almost ten years among the census .

Hi,
I believe you have the right John Davidson. I re-checked my the family marriage and death records on scotlandspeople .On where the parents Donald Davidson + Margaret Johnstone are listed on John's marriage & death records and on his siblings records , the father Donald has the same occupation.
Also in my research  the age differences in records happens alot. Both my great grandfather James Tullloch Davidson b. 1866  and his brother Donald b 1864 ages ranged close to 10 yr differences among the records. For example James marriage record in 1896 says he was 23 when actually his was 30.
Now I just need to find James siblings William b 1867 and John b 1870.

Hi,
 It was a nice surprise to see this photo of Donald Davidson and Margaret Johnstone headstone. Donald and Margaret are my 3rd great grandparents. Their children were William born Mar 1844 (he married Margaret Tulloch nov 1863 petty),Alex b. Sep 23 1846(he married Margaret Mcculloch dec 7 1867), John b 1850,Donald b 1854-1936 (he married Janet(Jessie) Smith dec. 1877), Margaret b nov 8 1855-1928 (Hugh Mackenzie, ploughman  is the father of her son John), Jane 1856-1857, Catherine 1862-1863.

My 2nd great grandparents are William Davidson and Margaret Tulloch b. 1839-1918 (d/o James Tulloch 1806-1886 + Mary McBain/McBean 1810-1892) .Their children were all born in Petty. Their son James Tulloch Davidson born feb  1866-1912 is my great- grandfather, he came to Canada in the late 1880's  and married my great grandmother Annie McLaren b. 1877 on sep 2nd  1896 Westmeath twp ,Renfrew county Ontario CANADA.
 James siblings include Donald b. sep 1 1864-1944 (he married Catherine McKAY 1869-1925), William b. nov 20 1867, John b. feb 20 1870, Roderick b 16 mar 1873-1927(not married), Margaret b 16 mar 1875-196?, she married James Paul lived in Nairn, Alex b. 14 apr 1877- d. 1949 IWOA USA, Mary Anne b. jun 21 1879 d. 15 dec 1935 Toronto Canada, she married Donald Ross in 1897 inverness, Hugh b nov 04 1880-1932(not married), and Andrew b. 05 apr 1883-1966 inverness(not married).

James siblings William b 1867 and John b. 1870 are the only ones I could not find anymore info. Last census with John were 1881 when he was 11. William's last info found was 1891 , he was working as a shepherd in Petty.

Margaret Johnstone sister Mary Johnstone also married a Davidson. Mary married a John Davidson (s/o Alex Davidson + Ann Cameron) and I have been trying to find any connection between their husbands families as they were both from Davidson families of Petty.

I would be happy to share any info.
