Hi Peepay,

Nice to hear from you again. You will know me from ancesty.... I have been in touch with you there. Thank you for your kind offer, I think we will be of great help to each other in untangling this side of our families.

Hi Ann
Thank you for sharing the photos you have taken. They are as ornate as I was led to believe.
Haven't had time to indulge in my research as much as I had wished this holiday, but hopefully, when I have things running smoothly at work again, I will have some more time to follow some of you wonderful leads.

Hi All,
not sure if there is anything you can help with, though you seem to be far more professional than myself.
I have traced my Greetham/Burgess relatives back to the 18 somethings and 17 somethings, and there seems to be quite a strong link with Surfleet, several of them having lived in Surfleet at different times.
If you come across any information around these names on your travels, I would appreciate your help.
I am hoping to get across to Surfleet at some point (and associated areas such as Gedney/Leverington/Boston) etc and visit the local churches.
I know that the work house at Spalding was once the residence of my great X's Grandmother, long since demolished.
Thank you once again

Lincolnshire / Greetham/Burgess family
« on: Monday 17 August 09 08:56 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,
I am interested in finding connections/stories/pictures etc of my grandmothers fathers side of the family. I know that they were Greetham and Burgess, and that they lived predominantly around Boston, Spalding (Gedney, Leverington), in fact across most of the fenland area where they worked mostly as agricultural labourers.

I also know that my great Xs Grandmother was at one point in the Union Workhouse at Spalding - this I have found out has long since been demolished.

I also believe that whilst the family continued to be called Greetham (my great great grandfather was a John Greetham), that they may in fact have been Burgess - his mother being Mary Ann Greetham and his father being William Burgess.

If anyone has any information to help me flesh out the things I am already aware of, I would really appreciate it.

Hi Ann,
Thank you for directions to position of graves  of gray family members. Like yourself have been 'thrust' shall we say, into a more challenging positon at work with the resignation of my manager, therefore time over the summer holidays has somewhat vanished with acquisition of extra paperwork - so unfortunately haven't been able to do as many of the things I had planned to do.
This information will however make things a lot easier when I do finally get back to what my heart really loves to do.

P.S Bev,
I would really love to see your portraits if you are able to scan or take photos of them, am really interested in putting names to the relatives I have found that I never knew I existed.

Hi Bev,
My great, great, great grandfather Christopher Gray born 1815 died 1869 was I believe the person you refer to as being run down by a run away horse. He was married to Maria Smith, one of their sons being Abraham who married Martha (known as Mercy) Smith. They had a son called Henry Gray who was my great grandfather and married an Eveline/Evelyn (dependent on census spelling) Exton. I know that their are a lot of graves at North Kyme and hope to visit them in the near future..... my great grandfathers grave is at Easton on the Hill near Stamford. There are also graves at Horncastle where the famous Horse Fayre was held and was a regular stop on the Romany's travels.
Have a good holiday

Hi all,
just catching up with the Romany side of my family, buried for the last 3 generations, though my great grandfather is listed as a 'horse dealer assisting his father' on the 1911 census. I have recently discovered an identity and culture I never knew I belonged to, and am immensely proud of my fathers roots. I am a 'Gray' by decent, related to both Smiths and Elliotts. I believe in a world where culture, difference and identity are being erradicated, sucked up or just plain PC'd out of existence, we should hang on desparately to those things that make us different, and celebrate them. I hope one day my children will be as proud of their history as I am.
