I do realise that some may find it very sensitive but when I told my 88 year old father that he was visible on the 1939 register he burst out laughing and asked to see the entry.  He wasn't in the least bit bothered and was actually quite pleased to be able to see something like that.  I will therefore not be requesting closure.

Thanks ever so much for the information, I have had a look at the links and they will be an enormous help as I can see from Street View how much of the old area is gone. One family, I can now see, did live in a tightly defined area for around 50 years and the other is close by on one census so far. The research continues.

Hi, I am hunting for the site of some streets in the old town, I had a number of ancestors with the surname Caffrey living in that area.  The streets are -
Golden Alley
Flag Lane
Barker's Entry
Green? or Queen's? Place, Littlegate
If anyone else has a clue I could put an old map on top of a new map, feel sure that most of the Caffreys in that area from about 1840 to 1890 are connected and I am trying to unravel them!
