Hi Jebber

Thank you for that bit of info, very interesting. I will have a look for that will and hopefully it can give me a few more clues. That must also be the reason why there are quite a few old wills on Anc for Dorset familys. Thank goodness women arn't call recicts any more  ;D

thanks again

Dorset / Rebbeck/Vining/Viney
« on: Thursday 28 July 11 07:11 BST (UK)  »
Hi

One of the families I am researching are the Rebbecks from Fontmell Magna and Compton Abbas in the mid to late 1700s.
For at least two generations this family were known as Rebbeck or Vining or Viney. The other family I am interested in are the Hatchers from possibly Todber and they were known as Hatcher alias Crowter or Crowter alias Hatcher.
Does anybody have an explanation as to why both last names were carried on through the generations round the 1700s as it appears to be peculiar to Dorset.   ???

Thanks Geoff - that starts to make things a bit clearer, had just assumed the 1841/1851 census were wrong about her birth place.

Lincolnshire / Where is Ironfields

Hi

I am trying to find the birth date for Henrietta Ford who, according to the 1861 census for St Marylebone Middlesex was born abt 1800 in Ironfields,Lincolnshire, her father was Gilbert Ford, place of birth unknown - mother unknown.
Apparently she was married in Monmouthshire,Wales to Peter Moody about 1821 but, have been unable to locate this either.
Peter Moody was the Chaplain of the St Johns Chapel Infirmary,Marylebone,Middlesex and the family appears on the 1841,1851 & 1861 census of St Marylebone. Is there a place called Ironfields.  Any help or clues would be much appreciated as I am now stuck.      :D

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Rachel Gooder/Lee - death
« on: Tuesday 15 June 10 00:50 BST (UK)  »

Hi - can anyone help me find a death for Rachel Gooder nee Lee/Leigh please.

Rachel Lee was born c1805 in possibly Elland - she married John Gooder 1826 in Elland.
They had three children - Mary born 1831 in Rastrick - Northend born c1833 Rastrick and
Richard born c1835 in Rastrick.

John Gooder(born c1804 in Rastrick) his three children and a new wife(Betty) came to NZ in 1841.

I am assuming that Rachel Gooder must have died sometime between 1835 and 1841 but
have hunted high and low with no luck.   :D

many thanks

Durham / Re: Kelly/Carney marriage
« on: Friday 18 December 09 19:20 GMT (UK)  »

Thank you all very much for your help.
I am fairly confident that George Kelly b 1889 in Seaham is the son of my William & Mary Ann.
The marriage of "Margaret" Kearney to William Kelly is looking pretty good too, thanks for the
" Margaret" tip I hadn,t thought to look at that angle.
Will order the marriage cert and then hopefully be on my merry way again.

   Thanks again

 Thank you for the reply.
Have had a hard time finding William Kelly, it hasn't helped with the mistakes in the census
and the 1881 census has his dob wrong.
So far have found the following.
1851 census - William Kelly b abt 1847 Wolsington Deerton, Ireland ?. parish of Washington
1861 census - Wilkinson Kelley b abt 1848 Wolverstone. parish of Haswell
1871 census - can't find him, probably at the pub or lodging somewhere
Child of Matthew and Catherine, both born in County Down,Ireland.

Cannot find Mary Ann Carney before the 1881 census and do not know who her parents were
or if there were any siblings - a blank.
As far as I know from senior family members her parents were also born in Ireland.
There may have been children before Crook- James Kelly but, do not know of any unless
 they died in infancy.

I have a map of Durham - Newcastle etc but, I am very confused with names, places etc.

 regards

Durham / Kelly/Carney marriage
« on: Thursday 17 December 09 12:09 GMT (UK)  »

   Hi

Can anyone help me find a marriage please, I have run out of ideas on where to look next.

   William Kelly B 1848 in Wolverstone,Durham
   married
Mary Ann Carney B 1851 in Newcastle Upon Tyne
Their first child James was born 1873 in Crook,Durham so am assuming that William and
   Mary Ann married 1872 - 1873.
The family appear on the 1881,1891 census of Durham and in 1901 appear without William.
Any help finding them would be much appreciated.
