Derbyshire / Re: John Wall and wife troth of Darley, Derbyshire
« on: Monday 19 May 25 03:35 BST (UK)  »
Thank you Spendlove and David for your comments.  i checked Troth Wall's will and came to the conclusion that her name was TROTH.   There seem to be a number i people with that name during thus period in Derbyshire.

David .
I looked at Thomas Toundrow's  will prepared  23 May 1639 aand finalised for  the inventory and probate 3 June  1640. I presume Thomas Toundow of Ashover died possibly in May 1640.  As i mentioned before this will  is a dificult will to read.  My son helped me and what we found was not helpful to our speculation regarding Troath Toundrow baptised Ashover 22 Sept 1622 parents Thomas and Rosamnde).
In the will.
1)  Thomas mentioned his lovong wife Elizabeth.  I take it Troath's mother Rosamunde had died.
2) Thomas  referred to "my children" not naming them but did implyibg  that they were under age and it mentioned getting their inheritance by age 16.
3) Thomas refers to his two bothers named George and William.

So not much progress thee.   I thinks some of the  Toundrow family stayed in Ashover..  Forty  three years later another Troth Toundrow was paptised in Ashover on 27 February 1665 parents William and Susana.

Unless i can recover some new information I think I am not going to solve who Troth Wall'sparents were.  Any suggestions and help would be appreciated.

Thank you both Spendlove and David.   I have been looking for people named Troth in Derbyshire and found  a few with a date which might fit.   One example (and it is no more than that!) is Troath Towndrow baptised 22 September 1622 in Ashover daughter of Thomas and Rosamunde.   I have not found a marriage record for Troath.  Irritatinly her father's will does not seem to contain any family names.

I have mot  found a marriage record either  for John Wall and his wife .  Their first child Grace was baptised in Darley on 29 June 1645.  John Wall and his wife lived in Darley all of their married lifves and their burial records are also for Darley.  John Wall was buried 17 March 1687 in Darley and his wife 15 July 1692  in Darley.

I will have to wait and ask my son to have another look at their wills as I have very bad eyesight and i have to wear my glasses and use a magnifying glass which is a bit of an encumbrance.  However, both of you have persuaded me to have another good look at the writing on  wills.

Thank you both David amd Spendlove for your information ot is very useful

Thank you David for your suggestion that nearby oarish records may not be available as their start date is likely to be later than Troth's birth.   I will look into this.

Thabks everyone again for your help.

Hi.  Thank you for your efforts regarding missing information regarding John Wall and his wife Troth.

I see that you have all come to the same road block as I have:

a} cannot find a marriage record for John Wall and wife Troth
b)  cannot find a date of birth or baptismal record for troth ??? (do not know her last name which makes things hard}

John Wall was baptised in Darley (father George) and he and wife Troth lived and died at Wensley, Darley. Derbyshire.  I have both their burial records and wills.

Their children seem to have been baptised at Darley.

One thought that has occurred to me (and this is a stab in the dark) is that Troth came from a family who were not Church of England and her recordsmay not be availabld.

Thank you again for your help.

Derbyshire / John Wall and wife troth of Darley, Derbyshire
« on: Monday 17 March 25 01:57 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

My direct ancestor iis John Wall (1621-1687) of Darley, Derbyshire/.  I haver quite a bit of information about him but his wife Troth remains a mystery.   In his will  she is referred to as Troth Wall as is her burial record 15 July 1692. I cannot find a record of her birth, baptism or their marriage record.

I found some information which did not really add up that her father Anthony Troth was from Feckenham, Worcestershire.  However, I believe that Troth is John Wall's wife Christian name not her unmarried surname.

Any help would be appreciated.

Roxburghshire / Re: James Oliver born 26 December 1701 in Jedburgh

Thanks for your reply.  Robert Oliver, son of James, was baptised in 1727 in Jedburgh.  Family stories (which may or may not be true) indicate Robert may have been the Jacobite soldier who  left the army and settled in Hartington, Derbyshire.

I was brought up in Derbyshire, near Derby, where the Jacobite army came to a halt in 1745.  Although it may have been difficult and hazardous, Derbyshire accounts indicate that some soldiers did indeed defect/abscond/desert.  This does give some (although not a great deal) of credence to the family story.

Thanks again for your response.

Roxburghshire / James Oliver born 26 December 1701 in Jedburgh
« on: Monday 24 April 23 08:43 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for information on James Oliver born 26 December 1701 and baptised on 26 December 1701 in Jedburgh,  So far I have him married to a jean Davidson, marriage date 10 November 1724 in Jedburgh.

The couple had a number of children.  I am particularly intersted in their son Robert Oliver born 16 April 1727 and baptised 23 April 1727 in Jedburgh.    This Robert may be my 5th great grandfather.  If this is the case he migrated to England and died in Hartington, Derbyshire in 1804.

The family story is that Robert was part of the Jacobite army of Prince Charles Edward Stuart which marched to Derby in 1745 and realising there was insufficient support returned to Scotland (ending   in the battle of Culloden).  The  family story goes, Robert left the army in Derbyshire and settled in Hartington where he married and had several children.

I have information on the Derbyshire side of the family but would appreciate it if anyone has information on the Oliver family of Jedburgh.

Any information appreciated.

Derbyshire / Re: Robert Oliver (born about 1727) died in Hartington in 1804

Hi, many thanks for your responses.

The question of surname distribution is interesting and I had not thought of that.  I will get around to it.  I had not found the  1723 birth of Robert,  illegitimate son of Sarah Oliver in Chapel-en-the-Frith. Thank You 'Watson".

Trish, thank you for your information.   Robert Oliver married Elizabeth Salt (1729-1767)  at St Giles, Hartington on 9 April 1752.  Among other children they had a son named Robert Oliver bapt Hartington on 17 July 1761.  This Robert married Sarah Alsoppe on 20 August 1786 in Monyash and he died May 1845 in Hartington.

I will follow up the information on Hellen Stevenson and Joseph Oliver who married in 1711.  It indicates that there was a family named Oliver in  Hartington!

Thank you again, both of you.  More work to be done!

There are a few Robert Olivers around in this family so it is important not to confuse them, although easy to do..
