The 7 digit number was introduced around August 1920 therefore his records would be held by the MOD (Available to NOK for a fee). The 4070 no as a result of Ancestry search of MIC and Medal Rolls

Is it possible to see the original B/w photo to compare with the photos published in newspapers and books of the time. For example I have 13 Volumes of The Great War the Standard History of the All European Conflict by H W Wilson which has thumbprint B/W pics of the majority of VC winners by year of award.

Yorkshire (North Riding) / Re: Linthorpe Cemetery - Mary Ann Crick
« on: Saturday 12 May 18 14:36 BST (UK)  »
As a volunteer with The Friends of Linthorpe Cenetery and Nature Reserve I can advise that Plot D5240 is in the square D5177-D5339 which if you enter the cemetery by Ayresome Green Lane is the 4th square on your right. There is no headstone but our records indicate that it is occupied by a Botcherley. Any relation?
If you p m me with e-mail I can provide the plot map showing the exact location of D5240.
When you visit the cemetery if it is on a Wednesday or Thursday, Friends are present either in the cemetery or in the Jewish Prayer House ( N.E corner as map in earlier post) and would be pleased to take you to the plot and offer tea and biscuits later

just a note to correct Jim on trench map measurements.
The numbered square (18) is 1000yds x 1000yds (not a mile 1760 yds) therefore the lettered squares (ABCD) are 500yd squares therfore each 10th division up or down is 50yds. Useful when measuring distances
