Hi.

The Llangyfelach registers would be with the West Glamorgan Archive Service.  However at that time, there would be little more in the register than the information you already have (aside from witnesses most likely) - as it's pre-1837, no father's names would be present unless they were the witnesses.

They can certainly provide a copy of the entry, which would be part of their minimum £5 photocopy charge.

Yes, I see what you mean now - the problem I was having was that the search box for the marriages isn't appearing on our AncestryLibrary down here - havn't a clue why.   I managed to get to the search another way.

Sorry  :)

Cheers, I guess it's probably just the computers down here then.

Is anyone else having a problem getting the search box up for the marriage and banns database on AncestryLibrary?  I get a small grey box with nothing in it.

there is a name search for some years -  but not for the pre 1812

I have found it a great help and have found several infants who were born and died between censuses thatI didnt know about before, also  confirmed a marriage was the 'right one' by seeing the parish register with address and fathers names ... so i'm not complaining!
But of course it makes me want a wider range accessible because the more questions you find answers for,  the more questions you raise in this hobby!
Ah, you mean the workhouse/poor law records?  I haven't found anything in those yet.

I've been looking at the new Marriage and Banns 1754 to 1921 database, which appeared in the last few days.  You're definitely right about the wider range - I'm really looking forward to when the promised school records arrive.  I think that'll really be helpful.

stonechat, I found a random page of 1816 records in with some 1899 records earlier on!!!  Haven't discovered any accounts yet.

I tried to make sure I never published my tree when I was using the programme.  I don't think it's ever appeared online.  I hope...

How are people finding looking through these records?

I'm having a play with them now, and have found a couple of entries that I already have certificates for just as a test.  1 of them, in St. Mary Newington was particularly difficult to find, as I didn't realise the the Church of St. Paul and the Parish Church were in the same section as it didn't tell me.  Trying to find others is a bit of a pain.  Also I don't think there's a complete year coverage up yet for some of the parishes already up.

Does anyone know whether a name search will appear at a later date?

Hi
Thanks for that I will have a look at that site now. As mentioned above a marriage was found by ShaunJ in Chiswick of a thomas Bell Carruthers and cecilia lydia which seems to fit as all their children were born after this date. However I would REALLY appreciate it if yo could look to see if there is any records of Thomas Bell's birth as I still don't know when or where he was born - the unfortunate thing is that it might not be Swansea. Please only do so if you have finished what you aim to do first!
Thank you

Hi

I've had a look at the Glamorgan Baptisms, and there are no Carruthers coming up at all in Glamorgan before 1837 I'm afraid.  I would think that the baptism in Billingsgate is probably the one you're looking for.

I didn't check what records they've got for Hafod Copperworks Girl's school, I'll have a quick look next time.

Hi

I'm visiting the Swansea archives in a couple of weeks - do you want me to have look at the parish registers, see if I can find the entry for that marriage?

Also, I've just had a look on the Cambrian Index Online newspaper search, and there seems to be a few articles in there regarding Carruthers that are linked to your family, including these 3 very interesting ones:

Quote
Cambrian B10 MARRIAGES, MARRIAGE  25 August 1865 ON 21 AUGUST AT ST.MARY'S, SWANSEA, FORREST CARRUTHERS, MARINER, TO JULIA LAMB, SWANSEA.

Cambrian B10 MARRIAGES, MARRIAGE  01 September 1865 ON 21 AUGUST AT ST.MARY'S, SWANSEA, F.PRIEST CARRUTHERS, TO JULIA LAMB, OF SWANSEA.

Cambrian B10 MARRIAGES, MARRIAGE  01 September 1865 P8. LETTER FROM C.L.CARRUTHERS OBJECTING TO 'FORGED' MARRIAGE ANNOUNCEMENT, PREVIOUS WEEK.

I would definitely recommend having a look through the index to see if there's anything useful.

I've also noticed while looking at the index, that Cecilia Lydia was headmistress of the Hafod Copperworks Girl's School.  Have you looked at this info before?
