Staffordshire / Lounds - Lichfield
« on: Today at 21:33 »
On the 1851 census there are two John Lounds living a 7 minute walk away from one another.

The first is John Lounds b 1827 in Atherstone, Warwickshire (my 3x great grandfather) he is a locksmith and living with his wife Mary Ann Walker and her parents John and Mary Walker both of Lichfield. His parents were William Lounds and Mary Baker. He married in 1848 - his brother Stephen (my 4 x great grandfather) is one of the Witnesses.

The Second is John Lounds bb c1809 in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire he is a clock maker and is living with his Wife Ann Lounds and 7 children. In 1841 he is in Lichfield having married in 1830 in Uttoxeter.

How can I find out when they first arrived in Lichfield and where in Lichfield they were living. I have been trying to connect the two branches together for sometime. I know descendents from both who look identical. Thank you in advance all help much appreciated M x

I have found the following marriages in St Bartholemews church:

Sarah Lownds to John Short in 1765
John Lownds and Elizabeth Short in 1772

Both John Short and Elizabeth Short were the children of John Short and Eleanor Davis.

I am looking for the parents of Sarah Lownds and John Lownds- I am not sure at this stage if they are siblings or if they are have other siblings in the area. Any help on this would be more appreciated thank you in advance M x

Thank you Carole. Elizabeth was born in Bradford and William moved there after leaving the army so I'm assuming they married in Yorks x

Hope this is the right place. I'm looking for a marriage if there is one of William Lounds b in Bedworth in 1780 died in Bradford in 1850 and Elizabeth? They have at least 7 children the eldest Mary was b in 1822  so may have married prior to this. All help on this would be much appreciated thank you in advance x

Thank you Shaun and Carole
We have found this William as a child of a siblings of my 5xggf William Lowns - there is definitely a few up in Bradford and it opens up more about John as although this William was raised in Bedworth his baptism was in Birmingham his mother's parish and we have found a sister who stayed in Warwickshire. Just going through other parish records in Birmingham for John it really is widening our family. Thank you both again x
