Thank you for your help. You are one jump ahead of me. The McCormicks were next on my research. I had found John McCormick and Matilda Gilmour on the census records and their marriage but had not dug any deeper yet. You have made my next steps much easier. It is always amazes me how many wonderful researchers are out there ready and willing to help other genealogists.

Thank you so much for looking. I know the records for Dromore church were destroyed in a fire in the late 1800's so this will be a brick wall forever. It is a bleak cold winter's night in New Zealand.

Oops….so sorry. Rebecca McCormick married David Montgomery. Henry Lucas Montgomery was their son and was born c1854. We have no information about the date of birth or death of David Montgomery’s sister other than the fact she was present when David died in Drumscraw on 30 May 1890. She was noted as David’s sister. I really messed up there.
Sorry about the confusion…too many thoughts in my mind and not totally concentrating.

I was just browsing and found this post about Dromore. We have a bible gifted to my great grandparents on the occasion of their marriage and departure for New Zealand in 1875. It is signed by Chas. Maginness who I believe succeeded Henry Lucas St. George and dated October 1875.
We have no written information about Our ancestors, Henry Lucas Montgomery and Rebecca McCormick, other than their deaths in Dunaree and Drumscraw. We do know that David and  Rebecca had just the one son, our ancestor and also at least one daughter, Rebecca. She was present at David’s death. As the parish records were destroyed in a fire we have no knowledge of any marriage or baptisms in the church. We have pondered the thought that David and Rebecca may have named their son in honour of the vicar, for kindness he may have shown them. It was interesting to note that the Sproule family did the same. Henry Lucas is a name that has been passed down in many generations of the Montgomery family here in NZ. It Obviously meant a lot to the family. Henry Lucas St George would have been the vicar when our Henry was born  c1854.
We are writing a book to commemorate an our ancestors arrival  here’s 150 years ago and any local knowledge would be appreciated.

Thanks everyone.
Big Oops
I have just proof read my original post and I said his death had been a brick wall for 40 years….
I really meant his birth, but that means I will still have to see if I can find the missing years of St Martins records that are online.
Sorry for the confusion. Brain and typing fingers not working together.
How I wish my visit to Stamford in 1995 was a serious genealogical trip.
Thanks from bthe depths of a cold New Zealand winter.

Thanks amondg.
I have searched Ancestry and Findmypast for probate records. No luck there.
I have also looked at dozens of James Henshaw records but none have a father with any of his son’s names.
I have tried to find records online of St Martins Stamford Baron and there seems to be a gap in the online records. My next step is to probably contact the Northamptonshire records office to see if they have any further records. I know this is posted under Lincolnshire as most of Stamford is in that county…. But St Martins is over the bridge on the river Welland and is in Northamptonshire. It is such a lovely little bridge that is the boundary between the two counties.

Thank you.

My DNA test last year connected me with several cousins in England and we are all stuck in the same brick wall with no place of birth.

Lincolnshire / James Henshaw of Stamford Lincolnshire

Hello.
I am looking for a possible birth record for James Henshaw born about 1775 or 1776.

He married Elizabeth Merton/Murton/ Minton on 28 Feb 1798 in Barnack which is only a few miles from Stamford.
He was the publican of the Exeter Arms in Water Street Stamford until his death on 16 June 1831. The death notice in the Stamford Mercury said he was 55 and that fits with family papers. He was buried in St Martins   graveyard in Stamford Baron. We have all his children and extended families but his death is a brick wall of over 40 years. His daughter became the publican, probably about the time of his death.

I long ago found a James Born in 1775 in Weston-upon-Trent in Derbyshire but recent research indicates that he died on 29 Feb 1776 so that was a dead end.We have no idea if he was born in Stamford or came from somewhere else.

Any clues would be appreciated by his descendants.

Thank You.
