Thanks
I haven't hit the Irish side of my ancestry until now, although I knew the connection was there.
I have Thomas McCristal's Tithe Applotment in 1826 listed as Tyrone, Kildress, Strens. Is this enough for me to track down from the other side of the world? Interestingly, he also seems to pop up in Antrim in the 1830s.
Does the Tithe Applotment mean he was a farmer who had to pay taxes to a landlord? Forgive my ignorance; this is all new terminology to me.

ANY clues would be greatly appreciated!
. Stories have it that he came to SA in 1876, but I cannot find him in Australia (except for the Wotonga trip), nor can I seem locate him in England after the 1861 census. I can still locate his parents and some siblings in England after that date.
