Dumfriesshire / Re: Greenbrae Loaning Dumfries

Hello to all interested in Dumfries history. I am tracing the Beck family, linked to Cummertrees and Ruthwell, and to the Huntington's Disease. I am in Melbourne Aust.
Regarding Greenbrae, I have a note saying that Archibald Beck aged 41 died at Greenbrae House 7.12.1893.  If he had HD, it suggests the house was an asylum of some sort.
Can someone tell me whether the House is related to the Landing?
What is the Landing- some river side dwellings perhaps?
Regards,
Paul

Greetings to L23.
This is my first day on RootsChat.
I am tracing Becks in Dumfries. I have screeds of data from IGI and Census.
Sorry I could not see how to directly message you. So I am replying to your most immediate posting.
I assume you are linked back to the Alexander Becks of Johnstone (born 1709, 1734 and 1757).
Of special interest is the genetic factor Huntingdon's Chorea in my Beck ancestry. James Beck, son of Alexander, bn Johnstone, 1782 seems to have been a carrier.
I believe I am linked to the family of John Beck and Elizabeth Sloane of Cummertrees,  married ca 1799, through their son William (bn 1800).
I have not linked this family to the Johnstone family yet.
Do you know of any HD in your Beck ancestry?

Thanks,
Paul

Greetings to little prince.
This is my first time and first post on RootsChat.
I am tracing Becks in Dumfries. I have screeds of data from IGI and Census.
Of special interest is the genetic factor Huntingdon's Chorea in my Beck ancestry. I found Beck records from Crichton, which you reference here.
I believe I am linked to the family of John Beck and Elizabeth Sloane of Cummertrees,  married ca 1799, through their son William (bn 1800). Do you have Beck data related to them, or including HD sufferers?
Can you say which Beck family of early 1800s you re connected to in Dumfries.
Thanks,
Paul
