Hi r_hanger,

I am also looking for Quinns. Barnet (Barnie) Quinn born 1817 & his wife Ellen Quinn nee Daly, born 1811.  I have no idea of the parish but think their religion was Presbyterian as my dad is a Quinn & he is Presbyterian as his father before him was.
The other thing I discovered is when the family left Ireland & went to Yorkshire sometime between 1846 & 1850, they were known as 'McQuin' & later changed to Quinn. So now I am searching McQuin, McQuinn, Quinn, Quin, O'Quinn, O'Quin.
I have an Ann Quinn but that is her married name & she was born around 1841. I wish you luck on your search. If I see Ann in any of my research I will let you know.
Kind Regards,
Shelley ???

Hi Carolanne,

Thanks so much for that. I have found a death record for Barney. It is recorded as Barnie McQuin in the Jul-Aug-Sep quarter in 1854 at Barnsley. I will request a copy of the death certificate and see what's on that. I will pm my e-mail just in case.
Once again thankyou.

Hi Carolanne,

That does look like my family!!  ;D I do not recognise Bridget & Michael but the rest of the names I have researched & the family did live in New Street. I am so excited I did not think to check for Mc's. Thankyou so very much, I really thought I had hit a brick wall. Carolanne you are a very kind person for helping people out like this. Its so far away for me & the lack of any local knowledge makes it even harder. I can't thank you enough. ;)

Warmest Regards,
Shelley

Hi Carolanne,
I've just found this thread. I am in Australia & have found my ggg grandmother, Ellen Quinn who died in Barnsley in 1873, however I cannot find a record of her husband Barney Quinn. The family first show up in England on the 1861 census & Ellen is a widow.  I have no idea what year they arrived from Ireland & if Barney was with them.
I was wondering if maybe Ellen was buried with Barney. I have considered that maybe Barney or Bernard was his middle name, but at present have hit a brick wall.
Carolanne, I was hoping you could check the Barnsley Cemetery Burial Register, I would be very appreciative. :)
kind Regards,
Shelley
