G.

thanks for your reply. That is my g. grandfather at 26 Fox St. He was there from 1887 to 1895/6. There is a coroners report that hit the papers that would seem that it was suicide. He was lodging with a Robert Steele at the time, he provided input to the hearing describing the demeanour of Joseph senior at the time prior to his death.
Thanks again, Gerard

Thank you both for your replies. I was not aware of Mary's marriage, assuming it to be the correct Mary Jane Higgins. Would 'Urban 11' be St Matthews? I did find the 4 childrens baptisms previously but did not know about William & Mary McBride in Saul Street, which would seem plausible to link them in as the rest of hte family were in Vulcan, Sherriff and Chemical Streets.

Thanks for the reply. I have done a bit or resarch on those families and I can see the relationship between them all, except for Ann Jane Henry as to how she ties in, to each of the families. It states in the will that she is a spinster however time and time again I see spinister listed in documents when they are actually a widow. Most of the families are linked to 25 Scotch Quarter, which the GV mentions a Margaret Cape, which I assume to be James Cape's wife.

I am trying to find out more information about John FLANNIGAN who lived in the Belfast area, although I am not sure as to whether he was born there. He is probably born around mid 1810's. His occupation was "Custom House Officer". I don't know when John died.
He had one known son Joseph FLANNIGAN born about 1844 and who died 11/03/1900 by drowning in Abercorn Basin, Belfast.
I don't know the name of John's wife. Joseph's wife was Jane CAPE, who was previously married to Robert GYLE.

Antrim / CAPE family of Carrickfergus

I am looking for members of the family of Jane CAPE born @1844 & died 27/12/1896 in Belfast. Her father was James CAPE and I believed that they lived at Scotch Quarter, Carrickfergus. James was a shoemaker.
Jane married Robert GYLE on 10/04/1867 in Carrickfergus. They had 2 children; Robert 1868 & James 1873. I don't know what becaame of Robert senior. His occupation was seaman.
She later married Joseph FLANNIGAN on 06/08/1883 at Trintiy Church Belfast. They had one known son Joseph born 05/06/1887. CAPE is not common in Ireland and there are only a few listed in the north. There appears to be a link to a Ann Jane HENRY who was also known as CAPE and lived in the Scotch Quarter. She is linked to other families of BERRY, CAMERON and WEATHERUP

Australia / Re: SPELLACY and PARLE information

Bob,

Yes the name of Michael is incorrect, it should read Matthew. I have no idea why it was recorded as such but I have proved through all children that Matthew is the father's name let alone his mention in various records (NLA, Stawell Historical Society, and so on).
As to the neice, I still haven't worked out where she got to but I am working on two leads at the moment. The Spellicey family (with its various spellings) came from the Townland of Portdrine which is part of the village of Cratloe near the Co Limerick border.
Can you advise how you are related, assuming through the Campbells? From memory John Campbell is buried at Glenorchy in the plot directly west of the Spellicey grave. I noticed quite a number of Campbells buried there. The plot directly south of the Spellicey grave is the REA family which Mary is Honora Spellicey's sister. It seems they were a close knit bunch, inlife and death!

I am descended from Catherine Kennedy and John Fitzpatrick (2nd husband) who married on 28/2/1859 in Creswisk. I knew Catherine was married previously but not to a Shanahan. Interestingly, her mothers maiden name was Shanahan. Would love to know more details on William Shanahan and Catherine Kennedy if you have it.

Hertfordshire / Re: Thomas Conder from Ashwell?
« on: Monday 14 June 10 01:08 BST (UK)  »
Hi beedan,

I have been searching Conder's in Ashwell. I agree with you that other research with the Jeap connection is wrong. I have the Settlement certificate referred to showing Thomas and Elizabeth coming from Croydon. This move still poses othe rquestions which I'm not sure if I have come to a safe conclusion.
Please send a PM with your email address and I will forward what details I have.
