Thanks Rowena - that fits with all the ages for Annie after marriage in the Scottich censuses, and on her marriage certificate.

Will send for that certificate and confirm parents.

This is my sole English ancestor so far...

Thanks for helping with the census  - this line has been really frustrating me.

Best wishes

Margaret

Please can someone help with my "brickwall". Trying to locate whereabouts of HUTCHINGS family in 1891census or before 1881

My great-grandmother Annie Elizabeth HUTCHINGS was born abt 1874 in St Pancras, and was living there at the time of her marriage 24 Jan 1900. She marr.William MCCULLOCH a Scot from Lanark ( dont know how they met!)

Her parents are listed as George HUTCHINGS on marriage certificate - mother deceased but noted as Hannah KEMP on Annies death certificate in 1936.

Any help much appreciated as trying to finish this line for golden wedding anniversary.

Thanks

The Lighter Side / Re: Average Age of Family History Enthusiasts

 :)

Hi there

Became very aware of my age reading these postings -I am 47!!!but still feel 17. I am waiting to feel"grown up" - when does it happen.

I did the first part of my tree when I was in my twenties and used to spend hours chatting with my "wee"granny in Scotland I treasure a letter she sent with BMDs in answer to my questions...

With the demands of work and family and the time need to travel and search through records I confess I did little for several years.Enthusiasm was rekindledwith the advent of two golden weddings in the family and the vague notion that a "family tree" would be a nice present...now I am hooked, becoming obsessive!!

Love browsing through rootschat and finding others that share the same excitement of finding an elusive scrap of information!

All I want for Christmas is info on the parents of George MORRISON b New Cummnock 20 Jul 1813 - hope Santa obliges.

 :)

Margaret

Occupation Interests / Re: What is the most interesting occupation in you family tree?
« on: Thursday 16 December 04 10:30 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there

Just tracked down a marriage certificate for 1900 and the bride's father is described as a "traveller" .

Interestingly from same certificate my great-grandfather, who the family only ever knew as a miner/coal hewer from a family of miners had his profession recorded as  "baker".

So far my familys occupations are a strange mix - canal boatmen, miners,  gardeners, cofters, weavers and a grocer.

On husbands side brickmakers, horse-drawn omnibus driver ( a GRAY driving 2 grey horses),farrier, groom, and a signalman on GWR...

My x3 great-grandfather was a "calico block cutter".

The family were living in Paisley so we have an image of him making patterns in the Paisley print shape - but probably nothing like that...

Another bit on my list of things to look up.

Ayrshire / Morrison New Cumnock

Hi

Wondered if anyone can help with my "brickwall".

Have traced back through my father's line to George MORRISON b 20 Jul 1813  Rigg New Cumnock Ayrshire. Have copy of parochial register entry but it only gives father - James MORRISON . I was hoping for details of both parents to look for marriage certificate and more clues.

Can anyone advise next step? Or has anyone have George and James in their tree...

Thanks
