Hi Daisy

Thank you so very, very much for this info.  I have been working on a branch of my family for the last month and have almost managed to break down a brick wall.

Can I ask where you found the information, so that I can include the source?

Regards Vicki

Hi Jenifer

I have the family in the 1841 census in "Skinmarket Place", which does not appear to exist in todays London.

I would appreciate the details for the family for 1851 and 1861.  I do have the death certificate for Michael Coupland for 1860.

Regards Vicki

Hi

Thanks for the suggestion to email the Kendal Record Office, they were very prompt in replying to confirm the existence of the baptism record.

The baptism occurred in the Kendal Holy Trinity Church.  I have requested information with regards to obtaining a copy of the record and the cost.

On the marriage certificate for Jane Coupland to Thomas Bennick Harding in July 1848, Michael's occupation is given as engineer.

In the front of the book that Michael wrote is a testimonial written by Joseph Saul.

Hi,
His marriage certificate states that both him and Jane were "full age".
His father's occupation is given as "cooper".
The address given is 3 Alfred Terrace for both of them.

On the marriage certificate for Thomas Bennick Harding and Jane Coupland it states that they were married in the Parish Church in the district parish of St Mary Haggerston in the County of Middlesex 1 July 1848.

Under Father's name and surname it gives Thomas Harding and written above is "late".  I have taken this to mean that he died before they got married but I have not been able to locate his death.

Is it possible that SKS could look up the parish records for his death?

Westmorland Lookup Requests / Michael Coupland Kendal Westmorland

I have Michael Coupland who was born 28 April 1788 in Kendal, Westmorland.

According to the IGI his parents were Michael Coupland and Mary?  By using the IGI I have managed to find three other children born to Michael and Mary, - John, Peggy and Robert.  There was also James & Isabel and Francis & Sarah who were living in Kendal and having children at the same time.

I have a book that Michael wrote by hand in 1816 and this has his wifes name as Jane C with her birth as August 16 1789.

Unfortunately this does not match when I do a search for a marriage between Michael and Jane on the IGI.  The one result that I get is for Michael to Jane McKenzie in 1819 in Saint Martin in the Fields, Westminster, London.

This could be the correct marriage as the book states that they had four children - Mary, Jane, Robert, William Edward.

Can someone please help with where to look to confirm the surnames of both Michael and his father?

Thanks Vicki

Leicestershire / Robert Bromley, Manor House, Lutterworth

I have found a marriage notice in the paper for July 1889 that is as follows:

Bromley & Nightingale - June 4, 1889, by special licence, at Holy Trinity Church, Kalk Bay, South Africa, by the Rev Canon Baker, Edward, third son of Robert Bromley, Esq, C E, of the Manor House, Lutterworth, Leicestershire, to Beatrice Marian, second daughter of Percy Nightingale, Esq, Cape Civil Service.

I have found the gravestone of Edward Bromley who died 1900 in South Africa, it reads
Edward Bromley. Born 29-01-1862. Died 01-11-1900

But I have not been able to find any confirmation that he was born in 1862 with a father Robert.

The Edward Bromleys who are in the 1871, 1881 census do not seem to have a father of Robert.

Does anyone have this family connection?
