The Common Room / Re: Looking to contact ancestors of Garry, Fleming and McGloans
« on: Thursday 09 January 20 19:55 GMT (UK)  »
A DNA match of mine is descended from William Fleming, a stoker, who lived at 8 Netherton, Anniesland, Glasgow in 1915. We're trying to find more information on him.
My Fleming line was Agnes Fleming born in Kilsyth in 1812 to Robert Fleming, furnace man, and Jean Graham Johnston.
Any chance you're connected to either of these people?

Yes, I'm still interested.
I have people in ancestrydna, 23andme, familytreedna, gedmatch and myheritage.
If you're a Robertson/Mathieson descendant, my people wouldn't match you... because I'm a McIntyre/Campbell. But my Dad's half second cousin (a McIntyre/Mathieson), last name of Mees should match you. There's a Mees in all of the databases too.

Mary (Mathieson) Robertson McIntyre had an aunt Margaret Mathieson who was born 1835. But Mees' tree shows she married and had a lot of children with Archibald Blair.

Ayrshire / Re: Dundonald men to San Francisco ~1906

Great photo, hippiechick  :)

There is a shipping entry for a 25 yr old Archie Watson heading to San Fransisco in 1906. He arrived in NY on the 'Columbia' on 2 Sept 1906. A joiner by trade, from Troon. Going to a friend, a G McGeach at 243 Missisippi Street in San Francisco?

Monica

Yes, that's my great grandfather. Francis Briggs was also on that ship. In the 1910 census Frank and his new wife are living with my great grandparents in San Francisco. In 1908 my great grandmother (Bella McIntyre) followed Archie to SF with their two children.
Archie, Bella and descendants stayed in San Francisco down to my generation.

I haven't researched G McGeach or the friend Francis Briggs was going to stay with. I was also curious about whether there was a recruitment of Ayrshire men. According to my dad: Archie and several friends decided to go to San Francisco, because there weren't too many job opportunities locally. Dad says James Reid and Frank Briggs were friends long enough for the names to be familiar to him. I imagine all the Troon men on the ship were friends.

Ayrshire / Dundonald men to San Francisco ~1906

My family understands this photograph to be Archibald Watson and other men from the Troon area who went to San Francisco after the 1906 fire & earthquake to rebuild.

Archie is in the top row, second from right.

Here's a later photo which is Archie and two men from Troon.

Lanarkshire / Re: Glasgow Poorhouse lookup please - Montgomery

Well I never got her poor house records. But I eventually found her son's 1871 death record, 21 and single, listed as illegitimate, but information supplied by his father, Peter Walker.
So, I think that's the end of that line.

In Campbeltown, there was a rather large yours/mine/ours family. Mary Mathieson and Hugh Robertson had 3 children. John McLean McIntyre and Margaret Campbell had 6 children. Then the Robertson widow married the McIntyre widower (in 1887) and they had 7 children.
I'd love contact with descendants of any of the those relationships. I have several pictures to share and get help identifying. And I'd love to fill out my tree.

McIntyre children (of John McLean McIntyre and Margaret Campbell)
Catherine/Kate (b. 1874, m. Henry Baxter 1903)
Janet/Jessie (b. 1876, m. Archibald Stevenson 1903)
Isabella/Bella -my line (b. 1877, m. Archibald Watson 1903)
Margaret/Maggie (b. 1879, m. James Williamson 1907)
John (b. 1883, d. 1955)
Annie (b. 1884, m. James Walker 1915)

Robertson children (of Hugh Robertson and Mary Mathieson)
Robert (b. 1880, m. Mary Bell 1905)
Mary (b. 1882, m. Archibald MacKay 1905)
Hughina (b. 1884, m. James Morrison 1913)

McIntyre children (of John McLean McIntyre and Mary Mathieson)
William (b. 1888, m. Catherine McLean 1921)
Helen (b. 1890, m. Morris McSporran 1910)
Flora (b. 1891, m. Donald Sutherland 1915)
Marion (b. 1894, m. Alexander Lyon)
Dugald (b. 1896, m. Mary Weirham)
Jeanie (b. 1899, m. Charles Mees 1918)
Neil (b. 1901 )

I have contact with descendants of Jeannie, Maggie, Bella and Kate. Trying to re-establish contact with descendants of Annie. And I'd love contact with descendants of all the rest.

Lanarkshire / Re: Problems with Rutherglen?
« on: Thursday 03 March 11 20:35 GMT (UK)  »
In familysearch.org there's a transcription for
James Bryce
birth:   22 Feb 1836
baptism:   06 Mar 1836
in Rutherglen to James Bryce and Jane Graham

Which matches the age for the James Bryce I found in the 1841 census with the right named parents and brother David, plus several more siblings.

But, Lodger likely answered the question about the marriage. They probably married during the 1794-1820 gap. I'm in the same boat. I'm missing a 1815-1818 range Rutherglen marriage for my Montgomery/Park ancestors.

Argyllshire / Re: Hugh CAMERON and Catherine MCMATH/MATHIESON Campbeltown
« on: Thursday 03 March 11 07:08 GMT (UK)  »
Ok, ignore my previous suggestion, that Catherine seems to be married.
But this household (address: Strath, Campbeltown) looks promising:
 John Matheson 65 pauper
 Margrat Matheson 45
 Chatrine Matheson 26 M.L
 Peter Matheson 14 Ag Lab
 John Matheson 12

Have you looked at the Catherine Matheson b. 1811 in Campbeltown in the 1841 census?
I don't have a paid subscription, so can't look at the details, but I'd look at any Matheson or Mathiesons that look like potentials.
