The Common Room / Help it's been years!
« on: Thursday 02 March 17 15:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all, it's been years since I done any research. I am looking for starting points on free searches such as freebmd. In particular I'm trying to find a maridge between a mr Campball and a ms Kinsella around the York/hull area circa 1960. Free bmd has come up blank but I recall it not being complete. Any help and direction greatly appreciated. I will have to rejoin ancestry.com if not but I'm not ready to go to far just yet. Thanks Mick

Thanks ADM i have sent a request to N/A for a quotation based on this info.. the auto response says i will know how much it will cost within 10 days! at least that will show if there is any info on the record.

My wife is Flying south later this morning and has the MOD forms filled out so will get nan to sign and she will post whilst there so hopefully by the late spring next year we can fill in his history.

Many thanks to the both of you for your help and best wishes

Mick

your help in allowing me to get this far is fantastic and i have printed off the forms ready to pass to nan in law to request the details from the mod, So thank you a million times

Hi Scrimnet, not sure i fully understand so please excuse my ignorance on this subject..
Who would classify as his next of Kin, i assume wife then children then grand children? If so as his wife [My Nan in law] is alive do i have to get her to sign the papers?
Also his name is very long winded and to our knowledge he never used it, Would the army records be able to find what first name he used as to us he was Jack?
lastly are we ok to assume he was in the Royal Army Service Corps? if so the most likely on ancestry is:
Name: G. T. May
Rank: Private
Army Number: S/168317
Regiment: Royal Army Service Corps
POW Number: 22437
Camp Type: Stalag
Camp Number: VIII-A
Camp Location: Görlitz, Saxony
Record Office: Royal Army Service Corps Record Office, Ore Place, Hastings, Sussex
Record Office Number: 29

Thank you for your help and hopefully you can put me right on the above.

Mick

I am trying to find my wifes grandfathers ww2 records but i do not know his regiment or service number, His name was Saint Ledger Bullycourt Gabriel Thomas May.
We know he was in crete and was a prisoner of war twice once in 1942 in Mittelsteinie which i think from searching is in poland and the 2nd time was in japan.
i hopefully will attach two photos of him one in the 1st pow camp taken on 22/11/42 and the 2nd looking smart in his uniform
If any one is able to recognise the uniform or has any suggestions it would be greatly appriciated i have ancestry and there are a number of possibles but no one with the whole name although he was known as Jack all his life.
Thank You
Mick

Is it your dads birth cert you looking for? if so is he still alive? if he is then has he a passport and NI number.... if so its simple to obtain his birth cert.

If its your grandads and he died in the first war put up all you know and we can find him.... most likely via sctlands people site.
