Hi Nick, Have only just read your post.  I have Thomas Hawke Thomas and family in my tree and have been wondering why first child, John J, was born in Ireland.  He is found with G/parents (Evans) on his 1st census...?1851.61?  I have the copies but need to get them out.  Father was coastguard, moved around South coast, then North, died Hull 1861 age 45.  Do you have further info on family?  My connection is through Joseph Robert Thomas (b.51/52 Lydd, Kent).

Are there any Monkwearmouth records from mid-1820-1833?  My 4xgt-grd/father, Cuthbert Dunbar, lived there.  He was a tailor and Pigot's 1828-29 show him at George St., Mwmth.  Not sure if that was business premises or home, whether he worked for a business/company or on his own.  He died in 1833, buried 30th June 1833 at St.Peter's (parish entry no. 638) age only 42.  If  possible, any info greatly appreciated, regarding work, circumstances of death, or any mention.  Wife was Mary (nee Brown), children John,Mary Ann, one Jane who died 1828, (bap. Houghton-le-Spring), Thomas (birthplace unknown), another Jane born 1830, Margaret 1832 (both born Mwmth), so he left Mary with very young children.  By 1841 she seems to be in the household of a John Mulveney in Earsdon, N'land.  Thanks to anyone interested in this.

Hi Jenny, sorry we do not match up.  Didn't think to mention that my enquiry was in Liverpool.  Good luck with your search.... it gets you out of the Arizona heat, anyway!!

Hello, jlvolker, Jenny in Arizona,
I see you are looking for a William Williams, died 1877.  You say you found him in the 1861 and 1871 census.... in the 1871 census, did he have an apprentice named William Pilkington Knight?  If so, he is the same one I have posted an enquiry about, about 3 up the list from yours.  The apprentice is one of my line, and I wondered what had happened to his employ.  In the 1881 census my fellow was still a druggist assistant, but living with his wife, so I didn't know W.W, had died, if it is the same person.

This is the first time I have submitted a reply... hope it is done right.  I have an entry on the 1871 census (St.Ann's, Liverpool) of a William Williams, druggist.  He is employing a nephew, William P. Knight (my relative) as a druggist assistant.  In 1881 William P. is listed as same, but in 1891 he is a messenger in an office, so I presume the druggist trade was just a job, and not a career path.  I wonder if the uncle William Williams (born Liverpool C1824), was qualified or, as others have asked, just dabbling in a few remedies.
Thanks
Esther
