Kia Ora Dale!!  ;D

Sadly neither - her middle name was Marguerite, her parents were Charles and Emily and she was born in Wednesbury near Walsall.

Always tricky coming forward beyond the 'cenci' so good luck.  But these guys on here have been a real godsend, so keep asking!!

Take care...Helen :O)

Staffordshire / The Whale family of Tipton/Dudley (early 1800s)
« on: Sunday 22 July 12 13:22 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I'm trying to trace the Whale family who may have harked from Tipton but appear to have links to Dudley, particularly St. Thomas' ('top') church.  The specific chap I'm looking for is Henry Whale (various spellings over the years including Wheale and possibly Weales) born circa 1825, who in 1841 was living with Rosanna Whale (c.1771), possibly an older mum or his grandmother, at Crop Street in Tipton.  He later married Sarah Smith, worked as a boatman and lived in Toll End.

Does anyone have links to the Whales during that period (1750-1850) and could possibly identify Henry's parents or confirm Rosanna's link to him?  Sadly nothing on Family Search and nothing as yet on FreeReg, although I'm still looking at alternative spellings.  I did have a look at the St. Thomas' records in the archives yesterday, but nothing there either, although a few Whales around at the time - Tipton records are held elsewhere, so perhaps need to check these too, although Henry is noted in 1841 as coming from outside the Tipton area, and later cites both Dudley and Tipton as his place of birth.

Any and all info much appreciated as always...Helen :)

Hi,

Just wondered if anyone was planning a visit to the CAB archive this week and if so could have a quick look for a possible christening record for me please?

I'm looking for William Harold Woolridge, born in Wolverhampton in the December quarter of 1889.  I'm not 100% he was Catholic as a child, but later married in St. Patricks in Wolverhampton (it's possible this was his wife's church and also that he converted).  According to the CAB indexes, the details of the likely volume are:

Reference No. P319/1/3 - Register of Baptisms 1888-1925

I believe from an earlier marriage record (his first wife died young and there was no father listed on the later marriage) that his father was also 'William' but the census records 1891-1911 aren't turning up the family in Wolverhampton and there are a few 'William-William' combinations outside the area, so ideally I need his mother's name to confirm, but any and all information would be much appreciated.

Many thanks...Helen :)

Just to note also, that I've posted something similar in the Staffordshire forum, in case anyone is off to the Wolverhampton archives as he may have been CofE (later family members are) and so may be listed there.

Hi,

Just as a follow-on from this - in case others are looking for Albert Herbert - I've confirmed his parents as Victor Arthur and Julia Herbert, nee Mulcrone, from Stafford and Newport in Shropshire respectively.  Both lines are now back a few more generations, so if you need futher information please contact me.

Regards...Helen :)

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / Woolridge born in Wolverhampton 1889
« on: Sunday 22 July 12 12:18 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

Hate to ask, but I'm tied up at work all week so won't get chance, but could anyone have a nose at a birth/christening record for me please if they happen to be in Wolves archive, as I'm stuck!  :(

I'm after a William Harold Woolridge born in Wolverhampton in the December quarter of 1889 (6b 576 on the indexes) - specifically his parent's names as I can't find any record of him (apart from a Stafford one on the 1891 census which I think is incorrect) until his marriage to Gladys Tuft in 1910 (father noted as 'William' - possibly a caster or carter - but nothing linking to the census re: occupation) and after her death to Kate Crump in 1913 (no father listed).

I've had a look on the Wolves History site indexes but nothing there, although his later marriage was in St. Patricks (Catholic) - not sure about the earlier one - so I don't think it'd be there anyway (CofE only?).  I'm also not sure if he was Catholic before this or converted (later family are CofE) and I can't find the St. Patricks indexes for this date which are apparently not where they're supposed to be in Birmingham!  :(

Happy for all advice, including to get the birth certificate if needs be but I'm just impatient as usual!!   ;)

Many thanks...Helen :)

Shropshire / Newport - Watkins Yard on St. Mary's Street
« on: Friday 20 July 12 21:04 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I'm currently looking into a friend's family history and have found an Irish family (Mulcrone from Co. Mayo) living in Newport in the mid- to late 19th century.  In 1881 they lived in Bellmans Yard off the High Street, which I've found on a current map, but by 1991 had moved to 'Watkins Yard' on St. Mary's Street which I can't find - does anyone know where this was/is, as we may be popping over at some point, so I'd love to point in the right direction rather than more generally at the street?  And bit of a long short I know, but does anyone have any photos of either?

Many thanks...Helen  ;D

Staffordshire / De Grey family - marriage in Sedgley 1818
« on: Saturday 14 July 12 20:36 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I'm trying to trace a marriage record for Samuel De Grey (or DeGrey) and Ann Holland, who married on 13th September 1818 in Sedgley.  I'm particularly interested in his father's name to take the line back, or alternatively - and presuming they married in All Saints - does anyone know where the 19th Century parish records for Sedgley are currently held?  Does the Dudley archive have a copy?

Many thanks...Helen :)

Thanks Skylark,

I think I'll just have to be patient and wait for the marriage certificates to come - ordered from GRO this morning!!  :)

Best regards...Helen

Hi Carol,

Sadly we don't as Albert left his wife when his son (who's tree I'm following) was about three.  There's a possible death (if he stayed local) in Stafford putting his birth around 1903, which ties with both the Aston and Stafford options, but technically he could have been 16 or 60 when he married so I'm not sure.  I guess the definitive will be the marriage certificate which we know is correct, but I was just trying to get a 'heads up' until I pop in next week to order it!  ;)

Many thanks...Helen :)
